I'm kinda looking around at AES stuff and am planning on buying one in the near future. I'm a little lost on the prices of them, though. Some go for like $150 and some go for $250+... I have heard something about serial #s determining price, but I don't know anything beyond that... I want to get a JP AES system with a box. Used, obviously, but in good condition. So, to all of you AES veterans, what is a reasonable price for this? Most of the auctions I see for them come with one or two common games, so figure that in as well.

Hey, good choice to get a boxed NGH... ;)

For the serial numbers, if you have a low numbered one, like up to 35.000, you have a better RGB picture quality. But RGB picture is only used in Europe as a standard, you only have Composite, S-Vid and YUV.

If you consider to have a superior picture quality, you should get a Video-modded AES, like from Jeff Kurtz, with his well known video board.

If you buy a high numbered one, like numbering over 100.000 you have a better, but even NOT superior Composite video quality.

Boxed systems are ranged between $200 - $500 shipped, depending on where do you buy. Here at the ng-com forum, systems are fair priced, but the freaks out here have the knowledge to handle there AES conseoles well, so you won't be disappointed if you deal here. On places like ebay, you will get the cheapest prices, because all the japanese and chinese seller try to sell there consoles now, because prices go down very fast. I saw a boxed system on ebay once for like 180 bucks excl. shipping. Consider that you have to pay appr. $50 shipping for a boxed system from Japan.

For a boxed system, it depends on the offer, if you get some low-dollar games with it, like Fatal Fury 1, 2, Special, KoF94, 95 or Ghost Pilots...

Games like Last Blade, Metal Slug or the later Kof-titles are mostly sold seperatly, because of they're fairly high collector's value.

Congratz to your decision, you will not be disappointed with you new beauty, you AES... If you get one...

Thanks for the info!

I have a 4 slot cab right now. I'm a pretty anal collector, so my plan (I think it's a good plan, though, you may not) is this: Get kits for every MVS game that I want. For games that I can't get kits for, get complete AES carts... Sounds logical, but we'll see how it works out in action. Oh, and then of course, get a Phantom converter. Basically, my focus would remain MVS. The monitor on my cab is new and inevitably, all monitors die. I'm already dreading that day, hahaha. So, I want to be able to play Neo on a TV, you know.

I was hoping to get one that wasn't modded for now, just to drive down the cost a little. Then, later on, send it to that guy who does the Neo mods, for the lit power button and s video mod.

I think I'll not worry about the serial # issue at my early stage in this thing. If picture quality is the only thing affected with this and I going to get it modded anyway, there is no point. That is, unless picture quality is in fact not the only thing affected with serial #.

I won 3 AES consoles for £30 shipped on eBay - what's that like $17 each?

Then again - chance of them working when they arrive.....

You never know, they may work. Also, they could be like a system I sold, which just needed a new bios.

Was yours the one with the broken PIN? I was gonna bid on it but saw it last minute and the pictures were too blurry to really see anything.

Nah, the bios was bust for some reason so I tried it with another which worked fine. Sold the machine as I couldn't be arsed with getting another bios and I had a modded system already.

Heh - totally forgot about this thread!

The 3 arrived, all in great condition on the outside, gold lettering bright etc!

Two work perfectly! heh heh - lucky me!

One is fuct - I tried to use Razoola's list of errors (i.e. using the colour of the screen as a guide), but the screen is garbled multi-colour, so it's no help!

However I needed the outer shell to replace the shell of one I smashed a year or so ago!

So we're talking £30 in total, call it £5 for the case that I used....

That's £12.50 for each working Neo Geo..... or $21.50 for you US guys!

BARGAIN!
