Stacked labels = Bootleg?

Hi Guys.

A some of you may know: I just bought a brand new RotD kit.
Everything looks fine. Cart, blue bubble bag, marqee stuff, box....

But there is something odd:
Both the cart and the box have 2 labels on them, stacked (so that one covers the other).

The labels (like everything else) look original and I have not tried to peel the top one off yet for fear of damaging it.

Was this common practice (i.e. If they had Jap labels originally or the labelling machine stuck 2 on instead of one) or should I be worried?

It may be a bootleg/sac cart, but probaly just had the Jap label overlayed with a US one at the factory (or vice-versa).

If the kit is all in good nick, then I'd say someone has just put english labels on it.

stacking like this is usually done over the label of a sac cart for a bootleg to go back in the case.

It is were a more commonly booted game (like Neo bomberman) then I would take that as the first clue it's a bootleg.

p.s how much did you pay for the full kit?

Hi Capitan.

I payed £45 plus £5 delivery from 'mvsisbest' (eBay shop).
I've bought new kits from this guy before, no complaints.

Hi Guys.

I have had a good look at the labels and under the right lighting conditions I can make out kanji text on the lower sticker.

I can also make out the Evoga logo on the end and the murky blurs of the serial numbers appear to be the same shape. :glee:

This leads me to believe that SpamYouToDeath and El Capitan are correct to assume that the Jap label was overlayed with a US one at the factory.

Thanks for your time, fellas.
It's much appreciated. :)

(I really need to stop worrying about this game)

Now you mention it: I do remember that my SS1 for AES (back when I could afford one ;) ) had a euro label over a jap one.

I don't know if this is helpful, but Chris Mullins' Neo Geo FAQ provides the following:

----On NAM-1975, how come there's two stickers on the game, where it says NAM-1975?

From NAM-1975 up till after the release of Samurai Shodown, for the US games, SNK just took production Japanese games, and slapped a US sticker on the Japanese game, to make US games. Showing their insolent laziness, SNK saved money by not removing stickers off of Jap games and just put the US ones over them.

The games are legit; there's nothing wrong with them. But, sometimes, the double-stickering of the games looks unsightly.

The faq can be found here:

http://www.neogeoforlife.com/faqs.php

I hope that helps. I can't remember if this is relevant only to MVS titles or AES titles or both.

Uh...no.

I can't say for before or after, but during my own 5 years at SNK, I have ***NEVER*** seen us do a sticker overlay at the factory. Nor has any original product come in double stickered.

The double stickers we did see were parallels illegaly imported into the USA.

Just so you know.

I have a neo driftout that appears legit from the inside with two stickers on it. (It is similar to pictures of the boards I have seen before) Could this have been done in the European market?

Parallels?

Not a term that I am familiar with, Tony.
What do you mean?

Seriously though, mate.
If this is a boot, it is the best boot I've ever seen.

It all looks properly genuine.

I guess by parallels he means that there were two types of import:

legit US copies shipped in by SNK USA; and
legit jap copies shipped in by distributors and other import companies, and it was these guys who put US stickers over the jap ones.

So he's saying it's a legit JAP version.

Ahh, I see.

Sounds acceptable enough. :)
