I just got my TV back from repairs (yeah, great) but it came back in worse condition than it was...

There is some green wash-out at the top right corner of it and it can be seen on all channels (including RGB with games).

I made a pic, it's pretty hard to see there, but I hope you get the idea...it's pretty frustrating.

Perhaps anyone can tell me what causes this?

it probably need a good degauss. Most modern tv's can do it automatically, but sometimes you need to get at it with a degausing wand. You can also try turning it on and off at the mains to try and enable to the tv's own degaus (some olne engage at a cold start)

Yeah, I think mine does it automatically, it's usually when I turn it on, there's this *duuuunf* sound...I'm guessing that's it?

Well, the weird thing is, the tv no longer does that since I got it back.

Had you used a vacuum cleaner near to the TV when it was switched on?

No, it was this way when I got it back from repairs from the service center.

Unplug the TV from the power outlet, wait one hour, then plug it back and turn it on.

Sounds like a reasonable explanation. Modern TVs/Monitors do an auto-degaussing. You could open it up and check for a loose wire, if you feel comfortable opening it up. However, if it was my TV I'd take it back to the repair shop. After all you did pay to get it repair not made worse.

Alright, I called them just now and they said it was normal, I should leave the TV off for a few days and it will go away...but we all know this is bullshit right?

I had a set that would have this problem if I ever had to move it.Just turning it off and moving to the other side of the room and when it was turned back on I would have an area on the screen that would have either a green or pink tinge to it.

This set was also very sensitive to any strong speaker magnets,I had to keep them at least 2ft away from the set as this could bring it on as well.

I would either just have to leave it switched in the on position and have it unplugged for a night and it usually calmed down.

Alternatively,if it was still there after a few days I would get an old speaker and holding it about 2 inches from the screen, start at the top and 'wipe' across the screen, you get a kaleidoscopic display as the speaker mag is over the screen but as you move away the colour comes back to normal. It takes a few passes and you may need to go over the whole screen but it does the trick.

If you don't fancy using a magnet then see if the place that fixed ur set will come and use their degaussing wand on the set whilst its in situ.

Well, the thing is, I never had any problems like this before I sent it away for repairs. Seems like they fucked up again.

Maybe it have something to do with the shielding of the tv speakers. Some tvs that have that speakers at the sides like yours are prone to this type of problem.

Maybe that just didn't reassembled your well?

I run a AV repair business, if a client reported that sort of problem I would send a tech out with a degausing wand to try to rectify the purity error on site.

Are they local.

btw. having the set switched off for 1/2 hour will acheive the same results in cooling down of the automatic degaussing ptc thermistor as two days would.

Yeah they are local, but the thing is, the TV doesn't auto degause now when I turn it on.

They need to put the shit back in if they forgot to do that in the first place.

I wouldnt jump to conclusions, let them know that you have a colour purity error that wasnt there before the recent service and request the crt be manually degaussed, it only takes seconds.

You can tell if the degaussing coil is connected by placing a compass near the crt and switching on from cold, if it spins at power up, the coil is connected. You may also hear the initial heavy serge of current induced in the coil.

Sometimes a shift in the position of the crt in the earths magnetic flux requires a manual degausse. Believe it or not, no BS.
I didnt mean to wind you up with my earlier post. But it is a possibility the coil plug was left off- Ive done it myself more than once :emb:
Dont go accusing anyone of that yet.

Yeah, I already contacted them.

However, the initial heavy surge of current as you call it (I have it also on my other TV) is now gone when I power up the repaired one.

The repairdude just left, it was indeed a loose contact within the tv's casing...what a bunch of morons.
