Greetings one and all.

I realize that this topic has been kicked to death but search as I might, I couldn't find the dead-cert answer that I'm looking for.

Will ROTD work on my MV-1F with UniBIOS 2.1?
With or without the cart fix.

Bear in mind that other games that have been described as problematic (SvC, Blazing Star) work fine on my board.

Thanks guys.

It works fine on mine. No mods and no Unibios. Seems that it works on some but not on others. Not sure what the deliniating circumstances are.

Hmm. Looks like it may be a bit 'hit or miss'.

Not the most expensive game in the world though, and I do have other MVS boards if it doesn't work on the 1F.

Thanks for your time Grinwing. :)

ROTD and the MV-1F (wierd cart coating)

Greetings all.

I got my ROTD today and it works flawlessly. :glee:

However, I noticed something unusual.....

One of the large GND connectors at the edge of one of the boards had a neat, clear coating on it.
It was covered from the back of the connector to about half way out.
Almost like a resin of sorts.

I remember some people saying that their cart only worked properly if they pulled it out of the slot a little.

Could this be the culprit?

I removed this coating from mine (before inserting the cart) with considerable difficulty.

Somebody must know about this stuff.

I refuse to believe that I have the only cart with such a coating.

It's probably cosmoline.

Manufacturers put it on the cart contacts to prevent corrosion, especially when shipping overseas.

New games typically have it on the contacts.

I think the right answer is contained in Magnaflux' nick.

But it was just on one contact and it was very tough to remove.
It was almost like a varnish.

Wierd stuff....

I just found something shit in RotD.

If you set your system to console mode, go into the practice mode, set both of your opponents to 'no one' and try to start the game, it crashes.

Anyone else got this?

I'd be surprised if Evoga let the game go out with a crash as blatant as this in it.

In fact: the whole damn front end is a bit wrong.

Text and images not fitting into the boxes properly in the 'stage test' part.
More than one menu that you can't back out of.

Is this some symptom that my board is struggling to run the game or are they all like this?

I just took a brief glance at my ROTD cart and I didn't see the clear coating you were talking about. I didn't take the boards out all the way, but I'm pretty sure my cart doesn't have the stuff from the way you described it. I haven't had problems with it on my two slot. I'll check out the AES mode to see if I encounter the same and report back later.

I was playing it two nights ago on a 1-slot and one combination of fighters in practice mode crashed it, then I tried again - same result, and a third time.

dunno if it's the game or the mobo

Thanks for your time, guys.

I have one further favor to ask (El Capitan? Vectorman? If you have your systems to hand):

Could you please have a look in the background test section in AES mode and see if it looks like this when you change the background that you are viewing:
Dscn1791.jpg

Note the text that runs under the border.

I am satisfied that the crash I mentioned earlier is universal.
Raz has verified this.

Now I just wan't to know if this graphical shoddyness is universal as well, or if I've got a dodgy cart.

Thanks for this, guys.

Yes that gfx issue happens in emulation. Chances are console mode was not finished when they released the MVS version.

Mate, that is proper sloppy! :tickled:
I hope it's not the same in the actual AES release.

Still, I suppose it's not too terrible if they didn't take the UniBIOS into account.

Thanks for checking that out, Raz.

re. email:
Been looking at the 'fix' (not that I need it, just wondering whether I should do it anyway), but results look sketchy at best.
Some people saying it works, some saying it had no effect.
I think I'll leave it, mate. :)
