Build my own AES Scart cable... 100ohm on +5v nessecary? or is it only MVS?

I use the same scart cable for both my consolised mvs and aes and neither have a 100ohm resistor in the +5v.

I did add 80ohm resistors to the red, green and blue lines though so the colours aren't too bright.

I did the same on the RGB lines.

I also added 100ohm to +5v, just to be safe.
TV's don't need as much as 5v for the RGB auto switch.

I wouldn't think you'd need it for an AES SCART cable though.
You'd think the AES would supply the correct voltage.

You'd think wrong. The correct voltage (which is 1-3v) is just a scart spec and no Japanese console is made with that in mind. The AES just has 5v on its DIN socket: it's up to scart cable makers to add the resistor...

So what happens if the voltage is higher than 3v? Surely it won't damage the tv?!

RGB Cables for Neo Geo AES are just scart plugs + din8 with the right pinout... doesn't need any resistor.

Well I didn't put any resistors in the scart cables I made for my neo geo and they work fine, but I'm just curious about MKL's comment.

The blanking pin can either be set low for composite switching or high for rgb switching. According to the scart specs low is between 0v and 0.4v (so basically ground) and high is between 1v and 3v and I've seen myself that even less than 1v (say 0.8v) is enough to switch to RGB mode so why give it a much higher voltage? 5v may not cause damage but when I build stuff I'd rather stick to the official specs and it's not like adding a resistor is an expensive or complicated matter is it?

My experience of this is that NTSC systems work on most PAL TVs without this resistor, but in some cases the screen is just black but you still get sound. This usually happens to old or cheap TVs and in those cases, it works if you add the resistor.

I used to have one of these cheap TVs and since I avoid 50Hz PAL slow-mo systems like the plague itself, I put the resistor in the TV instead and I have never had a problem since. It works just as well if the scart cable has a resistor too; you'll never see the difference.

If it works on your TV without the resistor, well, then you don't need it. If you like to bring your Neo to friends' houses to play, it can be a good idea to add the resistor for full compatibility and to avoid getting killed by your gathered friends because the equipment doesn't work.
