My new artwork thread - Now with more Spider-Man!

Broken has been kind enough to provide hosting for all my stuff.
Everything I'll be posting/have posted in this thread can be found here.

Thanks again.

Being that my other thread was ruined by goatse, I figure I'll start a new one and bump it whenever I have something interesting to show.

I'm working on an illustration right now involving dragons and I did these based on a quick google search.

dragons_resize.jpg

The one in the bottom right is, of course, the generic, fairy tale dragon, which is not really what I'm looking for. I'm working on this right now, so I'll probably upload some more work-in-progress pics as the days progresses. The final piece will be 12x18 pencil drawing, so I'll have to find a way to scan that to show it here when it's done.

Comments?

I like the heads on the left side better. Bottom left the most.
The top ones look alot more reptilian with less emotion while the bottom one looks like it can have facial expressions, so depends on what youre going for.

Im skipping 3D Animation Class today.

Well, this is close to what the finalized design looks like + a couple body drawings:
dragon_1_resize.jpg

I took elements from those four sketches and threw them together in a way that made sense to me. I liked the one in the bottom left the most as well, but I felt like I needed to work the back of the head more, it seemed too plain and underdeveloped to me. I was basically going for an evil looking dragon that wasn't too weird, but not too generic at the same time.

I know Im terrible.

Yeah, I like that final one (except maybe the arrow head thing? on top of its head, but its all good).

Yeah, the arrow head thing sucked and is gone. His head is tilted up so you can't really see the top of his head anyway.

I wish I could miss more classes. I'm at a point where if I miss one more class I'll fail it.

This is the final piece:

I'm linking it because it's a big image and I didn't want to lose too much detail by resizing it too much. It came out pretty well I think and it was lot of fun to work on. I was going to ink it but I didn't want to ruin the pencilwork.

Can anyone tell what game I've been playing lately?

:emb:

I'll upload some characters drawings for my final animation project this semester later tonight. It's basically a fight scene with the pacing and moves plucked from a fighting game and some pre-Crisis Superman nonsense towards the end. I only have four weeks to animate it from now so I'm trying not to make it too ambitious. I'm really looking forward to working on this as well.

Maybe make a copy of the pencil work and then do a graphite transfer onto some nice illustration board and then ink that.

Or maybe just use a light table and some medium thickness paper to do the ink on so ou can see through everything.

PS. I hate hate doing animation.

Still, I prefer the pencil line over an inked one, you just lose so much vitality when you ink over something. This is specially true for animation, where the pencil tests look so much better than the actual finished animation.

Speaking of which, animating fucking rules. It's really tedious and time consuming once you get past doing all the keyframes and timing things out, but it's so fucking rewarding.

Are you a CG major?

PS: You're the only person that replies to my thread Nesagwa. That makes me both very happy and very, very sad. :(

Im a "game art" major whatever the hell that means, so I have to learn BOTH 2D and 3D as well as a shitload of other forms of stuff.

I just cant stand the doing keys, getting them perfect, then going back and adding detail.

Probably why I like the comic book medium so much.

PS. Ink >>>>>>>>>> Graphite. I love ink.

Thumbs up on the finished dragon, hermegildo.

I found the bulbous sections of muscle mass on the creature's upper torso an interesting anatomy choice,
along with the neck pattern(scales?)...

For what it's worth, your illustration reminded
me of the visuals TSR might have included in their
AD&D module print materials or magazines during the
early 1990's.

That swordsman sure has his hands full. @_@

I actually wish I had worked/designed the body as much as I did the head, if it looks weird or flat then that's the main reason. I didn't know what you meant by TSR at first, but after a quick google search and having seen some of that stuff, well, I appreciate the comment. :D

Anyways, I've been working on my final animation project lately and this is something I threw up rather quickly last night:

http://media.putfile.com/stance34

I'm missing the follow through on that tie at the end but, aside from some cleaning up I could do, I'd say it's finished.

Also, if anyone can let me know of a decent hosting method where I can upload this kind of stuff (short clips) that doesn't involve paying thousands of dollars I'd be very thankful.

EDIT: Rapidshare link because streaming media sucks: http://rapidshare.de/files/8163980/stance1.wmv.html

If you are still in need of some web/ftp space, drop me a PM sometime.

I should be able to hook you up with whatever you need.

BTW - Your dragon artwork is quite nice.

Broken was kind enough to lend me some webspace and I've managed to upload a couple of short animation clips and some of the drawings I posted in that other thread.

It's nothing but an index right now (no actual website), but feel free to check it out if you have some spare time. As soon as finals are over, I'll try to work on some better compression methods for some of the stuff I'll be uploading and on a proper website sometime later. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations on that, specially codecs and compression, let me know.

Well, I hope you like at least some of what little stuff I have there now. :)

That's another thing I'd like to ask of anyone that sees this stuff, if something is not playing or doesn't work on your computer then let me know so I can fix it.

And thanks for the comments Ben.

Wow.

Everytime I admire your drawings they blow my freakin mind. I'm no Artiste or anything but I knows what I likes and I likes what I sees. Once again you have outdone yourself. Kudos.

Edit.....and no goatse to tarnish the impact, excellent!

Just finished watching those animations.... How long have you been studying? Are you the one of the best in the class? (fuck being nice about it, be honest!)

:buttrock:

black_wizardd: I'm on my third year right now, but there are other people in my classes that are way better than me. I'm one of the better ones I'd say, but I see some truly good stuff every week and that only pushes me to go further myself.

Nesagwa's comments always make me happy. :emb:

Well, I re-encoded and re-uploaded keys.avi if anyone missed it and I also uploaded a lipsync I did to some Family Guy dialogue, which I wish I had cleaned up more. It's a WMV (and the quality is rather shitty) so I apologize to any Mac users that might not be able to see it. I still working on getting my compression settings right.

Bump.

http://rhythmshift.net/hermegildo/animation/final_3.wmv

This is my character animation final for this semester.

It's just a simple fight scene, but it's incomplete at the moment. I have other projects to work on and I don't think I'll be able to finish it by tomorrow. There's still some editing to be done (I'm not too happy with some of the cuts), a lot of animation to work on and tons of clean-up for it to be really finished.

I had a very simple story in mind for this, but I guess I won't be completing it this semester.

:(

Downloading now...

Yeah, 2D cel animation is SOOOO friggin time consuming for one person. I wish I still had my pencil tests I did in school. [A rabbit butchering a farmer with a chainsaw over a carrot....good times....]

edit: holy shit! just watched it! Are you doing any 3D in school too? That is GREAT!

No 3D, but I do plan on taking some 3D classes eventually. It's just that, as time consuming as 2D animation is, 3D is even more so. Creating the model alone takes a long time, not to mention the actual animation. With 2D you just need a piece of paper and a pencil to get to work. There's also the fact that 3D animation has so many parts to it that I wouldn't know what classes to take.

But yeah, that tiny, 14 second animation took me many days to finish. I'd say I averaged about one shot per night.

I'm glad you liked it.
