Go there and bring you're AC adapter thereand then ask them for something as close or exactly the same as you're currect AC adapter, not hard.

I'm sure I could ask some kid working after school at a RS who really doesn't know...but I'm kinda hoping someone here has bought a replacement like one of those universal ac adapters...the reason I wonder is that most of them list 4.5v and 6v as the closest voltage to the Neo (5v according to the bottom of the unit) and usually the universals have a current of 500-1000 miliamps whereas the bottom of the neo says it requires 3amps...I just don't wanna waste money or fry my system...I have another AES mint and I don't wanna borrow the power supply from that one.

thanks

If your aes is 10volt (cant use with 5volt aes),
you can use a Sega Genesys 1 ac adapter.
Check out on eBay for one.

Yes, the model 1 sega genesis ac adaptor will work. I had a aes system that had the exact power cord.

NO WAY!!!

he said " closest voltage to the Neo (5v according to the bottom of the unit)"
His neo uses the 5v power supply, using a 9v from mega drive or genesis will fry his neo. :shame:

I used one on my old aes console for like 2 years. Even alot of the ebay sellers from Japan sell there systems with these plugs.

Don't get those multivoltage PSUs as they're not regulated. You want a switching regulated type. The specs should be:

output voltage: 5vdc
output current: at least 2A
plug size: 2.1 x 2.5mm
plug polarity: negative tip

The polarity is where you could have problems as most PSUs use a positive tip. Try to get a PSU that has removable plugs so you can change the polarity.

Some early 5v systems were modded by SNK so they could run with the 10v PSU like later systems. They have this power sub-board glued on the top of the CPU. You expect they replaced the bottom sticker accordingly but you never know with SNK...

On the old style board, you'll need more than 2A. I have a 5V 2A adapter that doesn't have enough juice for the old style board, but enough for the new style board.

I've ran the old style board off 2.5A, but idealy, you might as well stick with the 3A variety.

Jeff, what do you mean by old-style and new-style, in terms of model revision numbers?

I just got a 3-4 in the mail. I take it this a second gen board, so I cannot use a 9v or 10v psu. So I need a 5v >2.5A psu?

OK. I worked it out:

older style 5v board= pro pow = 5V
newer style 5v board = pro pow 2 = 5V

Newer boards than the pro pow 2 use 9v or 10v:

pro pow E = 9V
pro pow 3 = 10V

I'm pretty sure the Neo power socket can accept up to around 40V.

To be more specific:

older style 5v board= pro pow = rev "NEO AES" = 5V, min 2.5A
newer style 5v board = pro pow 2 = rev NEO-AES3-4 = 5V, min 2A

Newer boards than pro pow 2 use 9v or 10v:

pro pow E = 9V (NEO-AES3-5+)
pro pow 3 = 10V (NEO-AES3-5+)

Well I mistakenly used a 9v psu with a 5v AES and it didn't get fried. It just didn't work. I wouldn't like to try 40v though!

Whatever you try....

Never ever ever use a NES PSU on anything other than a NES.

You can use Genny/JP AES PSU's on a NES with no problem.

But the other way around is a BAD idea.

I hate sentences like that.

akin to "don't push the big red button"
