Before I go on, I have one thing to say:

FUCK CPS3

SF3: NG. Born 1997, died 2005.

Tried to change the battery, and failed. It was okay... looks like it's time to make that a Vampire Savior machine now. :(

Everything went great.... I had the other battery sodered into place, then I took off the old one. One side came off, then the other snapped off, and leaked battery acid on the board. No big deal, wiped it off as best I could (barely any got on, but still). Then I put the other battery in place, snipped the wires for the other, and as I put the chip in to see if it worked, I snapped it in place. BANG! The battery hit the metal casing around the unit and popped off.

I'm thinking of just turning the machine into Vampire Savior and calling it a day. I think I'll go to arcade shock right now and do that. Good luck to anyone out there with CPS3. It's just too much hassle to deal with. God how I love my other arcade boards.

So you did the "helper battery" method? Also, NG has the black ground wire on back, no?

I know I am late but I hate to hear about that happening. That really really sucks man. Thats why I am affraid to death of changing the battery on my own. I would try it but I think I might hang myself if I killed my 3rdS. Well, good for you with the vampire saviour. Thats a great game.

Serious love hate relationship with the cps3

I'll hold onto it in the hopes that someone like Razoola will come up with a way to defeat it, and bring it back to life. At the moment, CPS3 is a joke. Thank god that they've defeated CPS2' battery... and many thank again to out to Razoola for that!

It was NG, not 3S.

Also, everything went okay, but it got knocked off from the metal, only the US kits have metal that I've seen.

I think the important thing to remember, is that at least you tried! The thing was GOING TO DIE no matter what if you hadn't. I give mad props to you for being a man and actually going ahead and doing it, it is more than most every home CPS3 owner can say.

And if I may add, NG isn't worth shit, you can easily replace it.

True, but I was using it as a test to buy TS. I'm not even going to do that now.

And right, it's going to die anyhow. I'd rather try and fail then one day turn it on and find that it's dead, and I never tried.

Honestly, you're better off just playing it on the bawkz. I'd love to have an arcade version, but it's just too much of a hassle to deal with. I was sooooo tempted to buy a new kit from a guy on the forums here, but I just couldn't do it knowing that the battery issue would one day bring reality crashing down. :oh_no:

Man that sucks - hate to hear about SF boards dying, in any shape or form. :crying:

Sorry to hear you had trouble with the battery replacement Spike Spiegel. I just got through replacing the battery myself and had no problems. I posted some pics of my process here. Hopefully, someone will be able to crack CPS3 so that the battery is no longer needed for CPS3. Have fun with your Vampire Savior setup.

Well TS is a lot easier, no ground wire. I've changed three TS carts and it was cake each time. I doubt you would get one with a metal case, but if you did, you would know not to make that mistake again.

Hmm... I was thinking of doing this myself with one of my 3s boards. Now I am not so sure...

I'm not going to get a CPS3 unless there's a fix for all this. It's almost easier to just hook a xbox to the cab.

This is precisely why Capcom needs to port ALL their CPS3 stuff. Otherwise, their games will get lost forever. I'd like to try out Warzard (partially because Tabasa is one of my favorite Capcom characters, right up there with the seemingly SNK-inspired Karin) , but all copies of that game might die before that happens.

Kirk,

You have to understand, I was just unlucky. Not all copies will be dead. I'm sure that one day, when they figure out how to emulate CPS3 (like CPS2 and Razoola) they will also find a way to keep these alive forever and ever. THEN CPS3 will be even better. Hell, you think SF3 third strike kits are expensive now? Imagine a fixed version of that. They could go for even more. I'm keeping this kit in the hopes that one day there will be a fix.

The point of MAME is to preserve these games, one day CPS3 will be saved too. No way every WARZARD is going to die. I know a member on this forum had his RED EARTH fixed by a CAPCOM employee.

Yes, but only if they manage to crack the encryption. :crying:
