ok guys, I have a 6 slot that I want to consolize, and believe it or not, i have actually used the search engine here to resolve some of them, but the problems that remain are-

Biggest problem, the graphics are slightly corrupt, almost as if 1 or 2 jumpers were out of place on the actual game boards. Ive tried numerous carts with the same result.....any ideas?

Does anyone know where a diagram is located on the net that details all the ports or switches on a 6 slot? Mainly im wondering if the two jacks near the dip switches are to do with wiring the stereo (left and right) sound.

I would really like to wire S-video and left and right jacks....anyone know how?

Oh yeah, which is the best wire to 'break' with the on/off switch? 5v, 12v or ground?

I know there are some technical geniuses out there......please help!

Rule #1 of MVS boards - clean them. There is a guide over at hardMVS that shows the best way.

I believe the two jacks are headphone jacks.

Svideo would have to come from an RGB->NTSC encoder. Search here, there are a few to choose from. If you're in London, just use the RGB off the board and wire up an SCART adapter.

I break the PSU circuit on the 110V line, before it inputs into the PSU.

Wow, guess I caught your attention jsut in time. Many thanks! Dont get what you mean about the 110v though, unless your not using a sealed moulded psu. The only wires I have the option of breaking are the 5, 12 and groung, cos the AC points are in a moulded psu. Which do you think? Im guessing on ground cos it completes the circuit, so if someone can verify or improvises on that......?

If they are headphone jacks, would it be easy to wire up stereo jacks from them?

Thanks Maganflux!

You need a 'double pole - single throw' power switch (DPST).
That will break the +5v and +12v lines simultaneously.

With you being in the UK I would recommend using the board's native RGB though a SCART lead (like I do). Stereo can also be used through the same SCART lead.
You don't need any extra hardware for this and most UK TV's accept pure RGB.

You can get stereo from 2 places: The headphone connector and the edge connector.
A lot of people don't like using the edge connector because the outputs are powerful and it could damage your TV (I did though. Just be careful with that volume slider).

The jacks on the board are not, to my knowledge at least, headphone jacks. There's a connector right next to them for 1 and 2 player jacks though. I'm probably wrong however. :(

Thanks to all you guys for your help, especially gummybear for the 6 slot manual! Its quite late here in the UK now, so I will let you all know how this works out tomorrow. Still quite worried as nothing seems to be fixing the graphical glitching. Its not distortion, its corrupted graphics that are the problem.... :crying:

Indeed.
The connectors go to the MV-IC which houses the memory card reader and 2 headphone jacks.
You don't need the IC for consolization though.
You can connect to the existing terminals on the board.

Ninja.

Do you get corruption on all slots?

It could be as Magnaflux suggests, dirt, either in the slots or on your cart connectors.
Clean the slots and your carts until they're gleaming.

It could also be broken traces.
Because the 6F is so large, and because SNK in their infinite wisdom decided to skimp on inter-board spacers, the boards flex a lot when carts are inserted and removed.
This can stress and snap traces.

That would be bad.

I'd go with the dirt problem first. That there PSU you are using won't be powerful enough for a 6-slot so that could be it too.

Hi guys!

Have not given up, ust had a few other problems that needed attending first. Will be working on it tonight/tomorrow. Kinda upset that I cant use a smaller power supply.... I had bought a few from ebay recently as well....

By the way GB, that 6 slot manual helped a bundle! I thought, like on 1 slots, that you can only get mono through the jamma connector, didnt know it was different on 6 slots, so many thanks!

Glad it helped, mate. :)

Multislot MVS boards aren't srictly JAMMA, there are some differences.

When looking at PSU's, you need to bear in mind that the 6F draws around 4-5amps on the +5v rail.
Jameco and other small, nice looking PSU's won't power it.

Ok, I feel like smashing this thing! :very_ang:

Well, I can at least confirm that it is infact the bottom board and not the top board with the cart ports that is giving me the problems. I know this cos I tried swapping the boards round with another 6 slots boards and the bottom one let me down!

Gummy, magnaflux or amano.......anyone......please help, I just dont have the heart to give up on it..... :crying:

If you hadent said it was a problem on the bottom board I would have said-

check that none of the LS244/245,FS251/F244 (The SN74LS,F,FS ics are involved in switching data from each of the carts) look cooked or are running real hot.

ttooddddyy knows more about the component side of the Neo than me, ninja.

Have you got any ideas ttooddddyy?
It would be simpler if it was the top board.....

A picture of the actual curruption of the gfx may help. It could still be a simple broken trace. Check around by the battery for leakage also.

good idea....I will upload one in a little while. Dont think its the battery cos I also desoldered and tried both of them on each other, each board performed the same, so we can say its not the batteries.

Im getting scared.......we're narrowing down the options with no signs of improvment....... :crying:

I'm talking about lithium leaking from the battery and damaging the PCB around it. All the battery does is keep the calander clock running and holds the backupRAM so the battery itsself certinally won't be the cause of gfx curruption wehter it has power or not.

A broken trace would be good as well as bad.

It would be preferable to component failure but may be difficult to locate on a board as large as the 6F.

Have you had a good look at it yet, Ninja?
I mean a really good look?
