So, I noticed that my friends Big Red machine has a fan. I noticed that my Candy has what looks like a spot where a fan might be, but there isn't one. Is it detrimental to be playing it without a fan or were they just like this?

Ive had cabs where the fan has been noisy, couldnt be arsed to replace it so just disconnected. Never run into over heating problems.

I guess if your running the cab 24/7 in high ambient temp, with rear cover and door locked its probably a good idea to have a fan fitted.

For occasional game play under normal circumstances it shouldnt be an issue.

That's what I was thinking. It's in my room. All the doors on the cab are usually closed during play, but while I've owned it, I don't think it's been on for over 2 hours at a time.

Thanks for the info. Better to know than to be happily gaming (or unhappily, depending on which KoF game was in... :P) my Neo and have it blow up or something, due to over heating.

I Added a fan in that empty fan spot in my candy cab just to do it and since sometimes the cab is for a long time.
But instead of running it directly to the Power Supply I wired it to a AC/DC power supply with a on-off switch so that I can leave it on longer after the cab is off for added cooling of the cab.

What motherboard is in your cab?

2-slot?

It wouldn't hurt to add a fan. ;)

All right. Perhaps I will sometime soon. I really can't see it being hurt, what with the amount of play time that it gets right now. Yesterday, I was too busy to even play it at all. In other words, it doesn't even get turned on every day. It usually gets played for an hour or so, once or twice a day. So, if you more experienced Neo fans recommend that I install a fan, I will heed your advice.

Also, Gummy Bear, is that your 6 slot in your sig? That thing looks so schnazzy. What's the deal with it?

If it's not getting used very much, then you're probably fine as you are.
A fan isn't an expensive commodity though.

I'm glad you like it, mate. :)

Read all about it here: http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109357&highlight=consolized+6-slot

About how much can I expect to spend on a fan? And, should I get one that has it's own power source?

Speaking of schnazzy looking boards, my brother paints cars. I read in that thread that you used car paint. Just out of curiosity, would it be harmful to a board being used in a cab to paint it? Like, could it cause a fire hazard or something?

So, would a mains power fan involve soldering a wire to the board or something? What are we talkin' here?

Connect to the mains input of the psu (there should be screw terminals)
That way when you switch the cab on the fan runs.

No it wouldn't be harmful.
Just spray the lid (not the actual board ar anything that gets hot).

But if it's in a cab...... who'll see it? ;)

Hahaha, so you shouldn't spray down into the slots then...? ;)

I'll see it. For the same reason that people like their car engines looking good.
