Will something with a 100V socket be damaged by plugging it in to a 110V outlet.

I'm considering getting something from Cosmicco and the socket can be switched between 100V and 230V. Wouldn't it be fried if I set it at 100V and I use it here in the US where the outlets are 110V? Any help would be great.

As far as anyone is concerned, 100V = 110V = 115V = 120V. They're not that precise, and the last 2 digits usually indicate the amperage of the line breaker in a kind of shorthand. I've actually never seen 100v... but plugging a 110v into a 120v socket doesn't do any harm.

I'm not responsible if it does fry, tho.

Er, i doubt it... but... if it's 100v DC, don't. Obviously.

I was an electrician, I just quit. Voltages are really not very precise. Usually houses I worked on had between 114 and 118 volts. I've never seen higher than 118. I have seen as low as 107. 100 volt devices will work just fine in a US electrical service. Your stuff will be A-OK.

People have been using Japanese consoles in the US for many years without incident. I wouldn't worry about it.

Most of the electronic component in the PSU itself has a voltage tolerant of 5 - 10% too.

Here in Europe we are not that lucky, any US or JPN device will be burnt in our powerful 230V AC plugs...

We have to use stepdown transformers, but if you wanted to run any 220-240v in the US, you would need a step-up transformer/inverter, now thats a bitch!

anyway, you should be fine :)

Shouldn't be a problem.

Remember AC = Alternating current so it tends to be a little uneven in voltage, unlike DC (Direct Current)
