Is the MVS a 4 way joystick or 8? I know it has four switches per stick....but I see some people have the Happ Competition sticks, which they only list as an 8 way.

Anyone have their kit?
And does anyone know the difference between the "ultimate" stick vs. the "competition" stick?

MVS uses an 8-way joystick. When you move diagonally, it pushes two switches at the same time registering a diagonally direction.

cool, thanks for the reply.

Anyone know about the differences in the Happ models? I noticed the optical is kind of nice in theory...anyone like it for the 50 bucks each?

I've got optical ones. Bought them from slikstik.com with their custom steel shaft + aluminium pear tops. They are simply great! Perfectly responsive, sturdy and easy to assemble. Highly recommended.

You just need to hook up the extra wires to +5v ad off you go :)

I think I may go for them, as long as they hold up they would be worth the extra mula. So they dont click at all or what?

The most common joystick is the "Ultimate Joystick". For a few $$ more, you can get the "Super Joystick" (how you assemble it determines 4-way or 8-way operation), which is a bit smoother, and has a stronger-feeling spring in it. Personally, I stay away from the "Competition" joysticks, as after they're used a bit, they start not registering the diagonal corners (up+left at the same time, for example). The "Pefect 360" joysticks are "Ultimate Joystick"s that have optical switches instead of micro-switches. As mentioned by another poster, these require +5volts fo proper opeation. Most hardcore gamers don't like the Perfect 360 because of exactly what you mentioned. They don't make a clicking sound and when your playing fighting games, some players feel the clicking sound is essential to the gameplay.

Im not sure if it would mess with me or not. I have never used one that doesnt click... hard to say. So the 8 way "super" is good then? I didnt see that one...unless its the shorter stubby one... which I dont think I would like size wise.

Yeah, they dont click at all... lets say I am a "professional player" due to my job, and it doesnt bother me at all that the joysticks dont click.

Happ Joysticks page. Yes it does look stubby but I believe the shaft is the same length. I like the rounder handle since it's easier to roll the joystick on your palm. I believe most NG cabinets had this type of joystick but don't quote me on this.

I haven't been able to figure it out from looking at old promo pics of MVS cabs. Some show red ones, some black...but usually the pic is so small you cant get a good idea of how the stick knob is fashioned. They seem to look the most like the competition series from what I can tell.

I'm not really worried about it being exactly like oem...I just want it to respond well and feel correct "size wise."

I guess I will try the optical set...if they feel weird Ill sell them or something. They seem to go on ebay for at least 30 each, even when used.
