English MS3 release

[EDITOR'S NOTE: The NeoStore's first official release was Metal Slug 3 (English), however the bitter taste of NGF left some skeptics of any US releases, and the chaos surrounding SNK at the time only confused matters further. The release proved to be legit and many more English releases followed via the NeoStore.]

I thought the english release was going to have the Gold Warning label on it, in the pic Shawn has up there is no sticker. Anyone know what happened?

Shawn sent out an email to those that had preordered. Here it is.

"Hello,

The US MS3 shipment was released from customs today. Apparently it was detained until further customs information from Japan could be acquired. However, two cases did make it through, probably was sent separately from the bulk of the main shipment.

A confirmation was received numerous times for the gold warning label application. Regardless, it appears that both the Japanese re-release, & the new English release lack this warning label. The rest of the material is what you would expect from SNK, nothing is substandard, or radically changed.

The two cases (24 copies) will be shipped to customers in the order that the preorders were received. Also, Zupapa posters & flyers were received today, but no sign of the Sengoku 3 posters at this time. An email containing your delivery confirmation or tracking # will follow soon."

There you go. Makes no difference to me. Some English games have had the sticker in the past, others haven't. No biggie. Just the way it was released, nothing more, nothing less.

Like I said before to Illicious, I don't think either of you is lying and are just trying to tell it as you have been told, but your source got bad info. I'm not trying to harp on you or anything, but this really is legit. Your friend got info from a bad source. We've got Sengoku 3 on the way, with the SAME release date as the Japanese carts and there will be more after that. It's hard to believe, but this is real.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any of the US releases are talked about on the Japanese website. Why should the japanese public need to know about our release? When we had a US site, that's where it would go. So the fact that it's not posted on their website has no bearing on the legitimacy of the cart.

I see no reason to distrust Shawn. He has always been honest with everyone here, and when something has gone wrong (as with those NGF freaked carts) he did his part to fix it. If he says he has done this with SNK of Japan, I believe it.

I wasn't trying to suggest anything by asking if it was on the Jap website. I don't know how it works really, I rarely ever visit it. I just thought since the US website is no longer that someone may have seen it on the JAP one, it is an SNK release so it would make sense to have it on the official website. I'm happy with my Jap cart and I'm just curious about the US. I haven't been in the scene long and this is the first US release I have witnessed. He confirmed that the English Metal Slug 3 home cartridge IS official, and IS being EXCLUSIVELY handled by www.neo-geo.com (http://www.neo-geo.com) . He said any sales must go through that site.

Well i just called Apple Photo Systems (again) and they told me that the MS3s are official US MS3 carts from SNK of Japan which can be only found at www.neo-geo.com (http://www.neo-geo.com)

So Apologize for saying that US MS3 is fake but the first time i called they didnt know nuthin about it but now for some weird reason they have confirmmed it.

Now ill call again SNK of Japan to confirm it with them

There is a critial point in which a lot of Japanese game companies are at fault for.

They almost never know what versions of said games came out unless you actually find someone who gave a damn.

The President said at that time that IV never came out in the U.S. which of course every and ANY gamer worth his salt knows it came out here as Final Fantasy II.

Visco games I recently found out awhile back is also at fault. There are games out not even listed on their site and people who work there were not even sure what games came out when or where.

It's a sad state but I feel that the U.S. Slug 3 is 100% legit. ApplePhoto Systems has an OFFICIAL SNK LICENSE in the U.S. Not Dion folks but ApplePhoto System.

Illicious, c'mon man. We've done business together and I know you are only trying to do what you see as right and are standing by what you believe your heart to be the truth. But look at the facts. Shawn got a big shipment driectly from Osaka to Memphis. That's fact. It cannot be denied that these boxes were shipped. Could the boxes be empty or fakes in some way? Sure, but do you really believe that to be the case? I certainly don't.

The conversations and email interactions I have had with Shawn give me no reason to doubt the fact that these items are directly from Osaka, to Memphis to me. And let's not forget, when it comes to Sengoku 3, there are NEW japanese carts and NEW English carts being released at the SAME TIME. Unless Apple has a factory in Osaka and is making all of those secretly and in SNK's back yard, I'm inclined to believe those are legit too.

The facts coupled with circumstantial evidence leave little doubt as to the legitimacy of these items. I know your goal is to help Neo buyers know what they are getting. There seems little to no evidence that these items are coming directly from Apple.

Feel free to pick apart my argument, but I think it stands up pretty well given the information that is out there.

Uh, because the English title was PAID FOR UP FRONT by neo-geo.com, might that be why they don't carry it? And because NCS has traditionally carried IMPORTS and very few DOMESTIC titles?

I imagine more then likly the order for the Metal slugs 3 english was placed through Apple to SNK. I have no doubts that SNK made the game, complete shipped to shawn. Unless of course there is a www.neo-geo.com (http://www.neo-geo.com) on the manul or back of the insert..Then it is a Fake <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

at any rate who else would be able to work with SNK in getting NGH's released since a fan group ruined that option with thier fake release of the last NGH. I also think it is kinda of silly to think they shipped them to apple first and they redid the artwork. Everyone knows SNK Japan did the artwork for past english release and the have had a lot of people leave and new people come in, it would make sense the same person that did the artwork for most of the other SNK releases is no longer with the company. In fact there are not many true SNK employess left.

This whole debate is moot and pointless, after all as trey said Apple is basically SNK USA here in the states. Even if they did print out the artwork or create it they also do the artwork for the english NGM's as well. I still do not think this is the case. It is also not Like shawn is charging more for the Enlish release as well, so if he is having someone do all this work for him and paying extra for it he is eating the Cost which I also doubt.

For the record I did not order a Metal Slug 3 because I preorder from NCS.

Bottom line is, the boxes were shipped from Osaka to Memphis. Period. Unless there is a conspiracy of X-Files proportions in sending empty boxes across the Pacific to mask a production run completed in the states, then all the proof necessary is visibe via shipping number that was provided to all of us.

And, by the way, ANY retailer that decided to buy this English release OR the Sengoku 3 English release had the option to have the items DROP SHIPPED TO THEIR OWN PLACE OF BUSINESS. This means that the boxes go DIRECTLY from Osaka to the buyer (be they NCS, VGD or whomever) with NO OPPORTUNITY FOR TOMFOOLERY.

Unless Apple has a duplicate manufacturing plant IN OSAKA, then this whole diatribe on who actually produced these items is MOOT. The games came from Osaka, Japan. They came from Osaka, Japan with the paperwork you see on the site. That's it.

This is the same company that continued to support a system that was basically dead in the water from the day it was released, that released a subpar CD system in a U.S. market when they KNEW no one would buy it or care. SNK has always had a very niche market, and today they probably have a bigger U.S. audience than they have ever had, so a small MS3 rerelease on AES makes sense because its exactly the type of thing SNK always does: financially stupid and and ignorant of "market trends", but they love the Neo gamers.

Nope, from Osaka directly to Memphis.

Originally the 42 cases were to be shipped VIA Fedex from SNK of Japan, but FedEx was not able to handle the shipment in a timely manner (it would have been out last week) because of the events that occured, so SNK offered to send them VIA UPS which got them here faster.

So, they left SNK's warehouse in Osaka, landed in Alaska to go thru customs, and then went directly to Memphis.

But, anyway, all of that is a mute point because:

SNK of Japan made the cartridges.
SNK of Japan created and printed the artwork.
SNK of Japan shipped all of the items directly to Memphis.
Apple confirms it as being the truth.

What place does Apple have in this? They are concentrated on the Arcade market with the Neo Print machines, and selling MVS carts. Their biggest interest is support of the Neo Geo, and their partner SNK. English MS3 is from SNK, hence, Apple being a partner with SNK will assist in the promotion of the titles since they are located in the same territory as Neo-Geo.Com. Promotion for this will mean more sales to SNK, more business potential to Apple, and future English titles from at Neo-Geo.Com! Capitalism at work!

Originally the 42 cases were to be shipped VIA Fedex from SNK of Japan, but FedEx was not able to handle the shipment in a timely manner (it would have been out last week) because of the events that occured, so SNK offered to send them VIA UPS which got them here faster.

So, they left SNK's warehouse in Osaka, landed in Alaska to go thru customs, and then went directly to Memphis.

But, anyway, all of that is a mute point because:

SNK of Japan made the cartridges.
SNK of Japan created and printed the artwork.
SNK of Japan shipped all of the items directly to Memphis.
Apple confirms it as being the truth.

What place does Apple have in this? They are concentrated on the Arcade market with the Neo Print machines, and selling MVS carts. Their biggest interest is support of the Neo Geo, and their partner SNK. English MS3 is from SNK, hence, Apple being a partner with SNK will assist in the promotion of the titles since they are located in the same territory as Neo-Geo.Com. Promotion for this will mean more sales to SNK, more business potential to Apple, and future English titles from at Neo-Geo.Com! Capitalism at work!

I just called Apple Photo Systems myself (888.607.2444 ) talked to the receptionist and then talked to Bob Douglas, sales rep., himself. He said "We don't deal with the Home system"
he also said "As far as I know, no company in America deals with the home system." He had no idea about the home system at all -they've never dealt with it.

Personally, I don't understand any of the logic behind these posts, lets say it didn't ship from SNK of Japan and came out of Apple Photo Systems... What difference does it make?! Its still an offical release and where it came from does not matter. If all this is true then I humbly ask for an explanation of the shipping information provided by UPS. Is this all fake as well? Is the argument that there was a fake shipment from Osaka to Memphis in order to perpetrate a fraud? All these phone calls have done nothing to discredit the fact that a shipment was sent from Osaka to Memphis and all the timelines match up for, at the very least, my personal copy being shipped.

My copy is not yet in my possession, but when it is I will comment on that as well.

I'm not calling anybody names, but the only confirmed facts that are in existence are that a shipment left Osaka and arrived in Memphis and then some hours later my individual copy was scanned as outgoing mail and was on its way to me. I have yet to see a single thread of logic, let alone hard evidence, to discredit this shipping information. I think that is because there is none.

The tracking number is there for all to see. SOMETHING was sent from Osaka to Memphis. Perhaps it was boxes full of packing material, yet somehow I doubt that.

Adding to my above post, I do know that the carts never went thru Apple. So that makes option (3) still viable, but it seems to suggest that Apple may have only had a passing involvent, like an escrow or broker (possibly a trusted broker since they already deal with SNK as an official distributer of their other products).

Theory:
-SNK and Shawn made a deal.
-SNK wants to becareful not to get screwed (again... thanks NGF)
-SNK asks payment through their only US distributor: Apple Photo Systems
-Once payment was recieved by SNK, the manufacturing begins (hence, Shawn made the announcement)
-The games go directly from SNK to Shawn, as the original dealers.

Does that make sense? Even though this thread was filled with a lot of crap from a lot of people (not just few), this seems to be the most sensible suggestion!

BTW: I do know why Shawn is quiet. I remember him mentioned that a deal fell through (this was over 8 or 9 months ago) because he mentioned it here and it got back to SNK. Those old style Japanese companies are real hardasses on what they consider business ettiquete/honor.

By the way, I just wanted to say I substantiated this from Lord Ill's phone call.

The Apple Systems person (who sounded different than the sales rep I talked to), said that is was a deal between SNK and an individual at neo-geo.com (remember, this is technically a fan-site). That explains why the person I talked to didn't know of any company (including themselves) that deals with the Neo Geo home system.

They just figured it was a weird video game fan club thing that SNK asked them to collect payment for (Heh, heh... that makes SNK Japan sound kind of like the mob).

I think the proof mouse master posted, like the pics of the cases with customs stickers on them, and the tracking number of all the packages being shipped from SNK Japan in Osaka (I even checked on UPS, it's legit) is rock solid that SNK Japan made these, and shipped them to Shawn.

If they were made by Apple, then why did they send them to SNK Japan, only to get mailed back to Shawn? Doesn't make sense. And you heard what apple said, they've never dealt in anything involving the home system.

Well DSD can stop shitting all over the forums now. I got my MS3 today in the mail, and it looks beautiful. Original SNK snap case, insert follows the style of all previous SNK games (good quality paper, and back cover follows the JPN version very closely but with English text), font size/color on the 708 MEGS is same, blue stripe color is same, manual is great and follows the style of the JPN manual. Oh, and the cart sticker is glossy with ROUNDED edges, unlike the FAKE KOF2K ENGLISH stickers used by the duo.

Worst Scenario: US MS3s are Japanese authentics but with non SNK great english manuals made by Apple Photo System which would be the best to handle such a conversion.

Best Scenario:
Apple Photo Systems placed an order for Neo-Geo.com for US MS3s and there you have it.

Either way since Apple Photo Systems is the SNK Distributors then its as Official as can be.
Plus buying the MS3s will support the Neo.

I have an english Spinmaster cart, and there's no NGH# on that... I don't think that's a standard, I just think SNK puts it on when they feel like it... That's the newest cart I have, it's on all of my older carts, so maybe they stopped putting it on all the time. The cart is official man, just give it up...

Well, out of the 16 English home carts I own, only half of them have the NGH number on the spine under the mag count. Samurai 4 does not, while Samurai 2 and three do. Fatal Fury does not, while Fatal Fury 2 does. Art of Fighting does not, AoF 2 does. Neither my WH2 nor my WH2 Jet has the NGH. Seems as if the application of the NGH number is hit and miss to begin with. And no, none of my carts are freaked or have replacement inserts of any kind. Of my English carts, the application of the NGH# is 50/50.

The truth is that they were just plain old distributors who fucked up title names,fucked up artwork and fucked up the numbering and color scheme with SNK-Japan blessings.
As far as the accusations that Shawn received Japanese carts and had them convereted to english is EXACTLY what SNK-USA used to do! I'm sure alot of you own a Nam-75,Samurai Showdown or some earlier produced home cart with the japanese sticker label on the cart underneath the english one..
What was so great about SNK-USA?? They were nothing more than a glorified NGF that had a legitimate contract with SNK-JAP.

I mean, I'm trying to figure out how he went from the "necessary evil" of buying stuff from the unpopular duo to stock his store, to actually working deals with SNK directly, and even better have them cater to him.

I'm not trying to stir up anymore shit, believe you me. It's just that I've been following this courtroomesque drama for the following 10 pages, and this one little detail keeps bothering me. And I want to state for the record, I'm not asking this to take any sides, because like I said, I'm on the sidelines on this one. But if somebody could clear me up on this, I'd appreciate it.

Everyone wants it to be original. I'll admit that I don't care if they were imported from Japan. If so, Mr. E-Honda and Mr. Miyagi probably made them in the basement of a Sushi bar. …SNK DO NOT MAKE HOMECARTS ANYMORE, SURE SNK IS STILL AROUND, LOOK AT YOUR DREAMCAST GAMES…. I would buy NITD converted just to play the game. Isn’t this what it’s all about, to play the game. I have been playing and buying NEO GEO games for a long time. Yes, I’m selling some now. But, I will buy it back again. Sure, I have the PSone, PSX 2, DC, and the Intellivision. But, I always go back to the Neo Geo because I love to bash buttons and not because the cart was original. People that care so much about the originality of the games are the same ones that go to Blockbuster and rent games to copy them. I’ll continue to send my games to Jeff to get them converted because my Thai ass is not going to pay 1,500 bones for Metal Slug 1 just to have the original and never play with it. I have my opinions about the US Metal Slug 3 three. I won’t say it because you already know it.
