Experimenting with adding/changing sprites in KOF'01

I've always wanted to change around some of the character sprites in KOF'01 with some of their *ahem* better animated *ahem* counterparts from other KOF games.

I know KOF'01 is an encrypted game, and I'm under the impression that the C1-C8 roms are encrypted across the whole set, not the individual ROMs.

So basically, in order to tamper with the ROM, I first need to replace the encrypted ROMs with their unencrypted counterparts from MAME, right?

Can I just use the boards I've already got, or do I need different PROG and CHA boards to accomidate an unencrypted set?

I can provide pics if requested, I do legitimately own a KOF'01 kit (specifically, the last new one Yaton had, although I've got a beater as well :))

simple, decrypt the whole game, edit what you want and encrypt it. no need for other boards!

If you're doing this with roms, do you need to reencrypt them? Cant you use the unencrypted C roms on an emu that supports it, like Kawaks?

If U edit the Gfx, U'll a crappy boot ! :shame:

It's better to keep it intact, as legit original game.

If your actually going to also change animation your probably also going to have to change animation tables in the P ROMs as well as the actual tiles in the C ROMs.

I was thinking about that just today, actually. As long as I replace sprite tile with sprite tile, exactly the same size, I don't think I'll need to update any addresses.

Yes thats right. Youll just have to hope the different games use the same tables.
