I powered up my cab today and went to the sound test menu and I could only hear a very faint sound from one of the speakers, like a beep.
Is it supposed to play a tune or something?

Your just soposed to hear the beep through either left, right or both speakers depending on the option you choose.

I only hear the beep through the left speaker, is this due to JAMMA being mono?

NeoGeo does not use the standard JAMMA sound pinout, it can output Stereo from the JAMMA. You probably don't have it wired up correctly.

Whoa there. Back it up. -beep-beep-beep

He says he has a 1 slot, what kind of 1-slot? Most 1 slots are mono only. The 1 slots that output stereo sound do it from an extra connector and not from the jamma connector.

Don't rewire your cab just yet.

cheers,

The CN2 is that 4 pin connector on the side of the board that has the word s "SPEAKER" next to isnt it?

If so does that mean I connect the sound in adapter to it and take out the JAMMA sound wires?

What is a "sound in adapter"?

Yes, you would connect the speakers to the speaker connector (4 wires (+),(-),(-),(+) same size as a 3.5" floppy power connector, some old cd-rom cables, etc.)

You also have to change the stereo/mono switch (i don't know exactly where that is).

Ahh the sound in adapter is the speaker connector, it just said "sound in" from the port on the power supply, it has 4 pins.
I flicked the switch to Stereo, all while it was connected to the jamma sound and it still only gave me sound through 1 speaker.
Would I need to remove the Jamma speaker wires before the speaker connector would use both speakers?

Probably so, since the manual specifically says in boldface "DO NOT CONNECT SPEAKERS" to the harness for stereo and to the connector for mono. Or at least disconnect the jamma wires from whatever speaker they are connected to.

You could put a switch in the jamma wires, or remove the pins (jamma pins pop out with a small screw driver).

Ah yes, I didn't see the manual to after I tested the MV-1.
I'll take out the jamma speaker pins or find out where they lead tommorow and post back with info.

No, you don't need to post back with info. Just do it and if it works, then w00.

I cut the jamma speaker wires and then put on the speaker connector and I didn't get any sound.
If I leave it connected via the jamma sound it is very quiet.

Do the actual pins need to be removed from the JAMMA harness or is cutting the wires fine?
I don't get any sound from the speakers in the sound test menu with the mono wires disconnected and the speaker connector connected, switch set to stereo and nothing. :oh_no:

I wouldn't of cut the wires on the jamma harness... I would rather of had some sound in mono then what you get now... none :(

When I had a Cabinet (before the one I'm getting now) to get stereo I used to hook-up my 4 slot MVS to my speakers through the head phone jack on the board. Does that 1 slot have the head phone jack? Check HARD-MVS for what you want to do.

Well I got my KOF'96 today, put it in and didnt get sound from the jamma mono even though I do in the sound test screen.
Hooked up stereo plug and nothing.
My MVS 1 slot does have a speaker and a headphone 4 pin connectors on the side of the board, I havent tried putting the speaker connector on the headphone pins though.

no sound on either one :conf:
If i hook the mono from the jamma and the stereo connector at the same time (you're not supposed to do this) I get a clean sound ouput from one speakers.

Is this a genuine MVS cab?

If not, the stereo connector pinouts may not be the same.
Not sure if the stereo connectors are standardised like JAMMA.

On MVS, the middle two pins are audio GND.
Can't remember which way round the others go.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on here but it sounds to me like you've got both audio channels going to one speaker and both ground connections going to the other.

What I would suggest you do is trace the stereo wires from the 4-pin CN2 to the speakers.

You should have one of the outer pins and one of the inner pins on the CN2 connected to each speaker.

Both of the inner pins are audio GND and they are common so it doesn't matter which one goes to which speaker.
The outer pins are the left and right channels.

So, for example: If we number the pins from one side to the other - 1, 2, 3 & 4
Make sure that 1 & 2 go to one speaker and 3 & 4 go to the other.

Give it a whirl, mate.

There is a slight problem with following the speaker cable wires, the speaker cable connects to a port on a metal box with a sound in and sound out port.
The wires basicaly dissapear from there.

That's odd.

It sounds like it may be an amplifier.
Does this box have any controls on it?
