I've got what I'd like to think is a respectable little arcade room going. Not counting the PCBs I own that aren't in a machine (yet), I've got four games that I really love. However, I can't help but think that they could be better. Here's the list of cabs that are dedicated:

Tekken 4
Super Street Fighter 2
Virtua Fighter Evolution
Street Fighter 3

Now, see a trend? While, again, I LOVE these games, I can't help but think... why not Tekken 5? Why not Final Tuned? Who plays anything but Super Turbo?

Do you guys get this? The arcade market is so tough to keep the latest, but... I plan to get super turbo if I ever find the US version (free play), and I want Third Strike one day... but I love these too. And yet I can't help but think.... when will I upgrade these? Am I alone here?

I think it is normal to want to have the latest in games. In time you will have these "upgrades" and then want even newer games. I am just starting out with gaming again and crave all the latest versions of all my favorite games.

Yeah man the grass is always greener on the other side. You wish you had a super street fighter 2 X, well I have that but wish I could have a system 246 like you. But what I really want is a ATOMISWAVE with SST and NGBC. But the only thing that keeping us both from what we want is at least for sure in my case is money, because what I want is new and top of the line.

But be proud of what you do have, not too many people own any arcade equipment and would just love to have what you got. I myself do not own a cabinent and sure would appreciate to own one of your cabs.

By the way a green ssf2X is in english just like the blue version, so there is no difference between the two other than the color of the case.

I think its healthy, as long as you can enjoy what you have and not be too guided by impulse. enjoy that feeling of want. when you finally get the game you've been after it will be that much more satisfying.

Oh, make no mistake, I'm loving what I have to death. Hell, I love SF3, and most of you are going to puke, but I love Tekken 4. I didn't get these games by accident, but there's always a little newer that would be nice. That's what's so cool about the KOF series. The newest one isn't always the best. Hell, 96, 98, and 2k2 are incredible, and I would never want 2k3 just because it was the newest out (which I did buy anyhow).

Nope. The games that I think are truly great I buy, and then play the hell out of them for a very long time. I like to appreciate them and know them.

In your case, if a series I like is being upgrade, I sell the title I have before the next one is released to get the most profit.

meh...I have 4 cabs and two bartops....I am cool on games. Sure, I would love a dual person driving game, a gun game, or at least a gd rom setup for my naomi system.

but shit....my buddy plays his ps2 and that's it. I think of my pint glass ;) as 3/4 full, while others have a full glass (brand new super clean cabs)or just a couple of drips (consoles only). I don't worry about the folks walking around with a couple of pitchers in hand, lol.

Maybe you should forget about getting the newest version of the same game and grab some mikes arcade dual boards and double up all of your cabs ;) That always makes me feel better about the situation. I may have 4 cabs, but playable at all times are pgm, cps2, stv, naomi, and 2 neo 4 slots....and soon to be a hyper 64 dualed with one of the 4 slots and later Daraku Tenshi or soul calibur in with the PGM. It's a nice way of living with your glass half 3/4 full but being maybe having a couple 3/4 full glasses,lol...

I think it gives you something to look forward to. Which is one of the main reasons I love home arcades. I almost love the fact that I don't have any of the newer stuff because I know someday i'll try and go for that stuff (like atomiswave and Naomi) and then by that time there will be better hardware and then that's what i'll be going for next...it's hard to explain...

Yeah, it's easy to always feel that way. I mean hell I have soul calibur 2 in my arcade right now (as well as have t4 kit & ss2t). Yet I still wish i had something else insted. I don't get it. When I had a ungodly big naomi collection I still was not happy with most of it.

:( I guess I just personaly get bored of arcade games some time and treat them like they are console games (ie play for a good month or two then after that try ditching it).

Oh BTW, swap out that Tekken 4 kit for a soul calibur 2. Much better :D

Just don't like Soul Calibur as much as Tekken. It's cool, but Tekken's always been ahead of it for me. One day I'll own it anyhow, I'm sure. :kekeke:

For me about 3/4 of the enjoyment is seeing what I can get from a good price. The nice thing about arcade games is that there is always something else cool out there to get. I had to temporarily sell my supergun and a number of my mvs items, but I still have a few boards and carts. The nice thing is that after learning more about arcade "board" collecting, is that it isn't that expensive to get back into if you do your own technical work. All I need is a decent used monitor for a good price and I will be set. I also like going after the classics that I want instead of keeping up with the latest and greatest. Mainly because it is cheaper, and also I know I will have fun with the older games. Most of the newer stuff wears out quickly with me (personal opinion).

the only thing thats given me arcade envy is all these people on this board with candy cabs. i want to start collecting shooters and without a doubt a candy is the perfect shooter cab.

just sell your street fighter 3 and super street fighter boards and pitch in the extra cash towards the 3rd strike and SS2X boards. It should be less than a $100 difference if you can find some good prices.... But then again, I haven't checked on any of these pcb's recently, so I could be wrong.

But then I look over to my candy cab and say hell just looking at this cab makes me drool.

I want an atomiswave Egret 3 :envy:

When I first got my third strike machine I was like, wow this is the shit...NO one else is on this. Then I started checking forums and seeing how many people have a ton of arcade games. Of course I want to have the most amazing and complete collection, but I really only buy games that I know I will PLAY a ton. That way, I am at least busy with what I have.
Plus I live in an apartment, with two full size cabs now. Its always a battle to get a little more space. I eventually want a shit ton of cabinets.
But swapping out great games in a few cabs works awesome for now.
