Can anyone provide me with some technical documents on the way ps2 controlers work?

(damn I wish I could edit my posts. grrr.)

Just a side note: getting a supergun to support NES or SNES controllers, on the other hand, would actually be pretty easy. I think the 74XX595 is the chip that does the opposite of the 4021's in the NES and SNES controllers. A couple of those chips, and something to give it a steady clock pulse, and you're golden.

None, im trying to make a port for basic playstation controllers (PSone) without the dual shock. Infact, I only need it to interput direction pad and 6 buttons.

His main goal is support for custom arcade sticks. Most of those use PSX digital or dual shock 1 controllers. He knows what he's getting into and what he wants.

FusionITR: Check google for various robotic project sites. There are a number that like to use PSX controllers for controlling the bot, and I've already seem some implementation of a PSX decoder using smart basic boards. You can probably find some implimentations there that fit your budget or electronics knowledge.
