Today was a day of firsts :) First arcade auction and first MVS cab!.

I was bidding what everyone thought was a nice 2 slot, 25" crisp monitor, original Neo Geo cab, clean control panel, Had Metal Slug 2 and Sengoku. I won it at $300, then i opened it up and low and behold a 4 slot! Everyone assumed it was 2 slot because it had 2 games in it and a 2 slot marquee! Anyway I brought it home, added some carts i recently got, booted it up and everything seems to run fine except two things.

1.) There was a somewhat loud kind of constant beep/screech, any way I narrowed it down to the little PCB behind the marquee the selects which mini marquee to light. Is this a normal problem? Or do I just need to hunt down a new PCB like this?

2.) Every now and again, I hear a small pop, like electricity jumping , it sounds like its coming from the speakers, could this be a grounding issue, or feedback from a bad connection? Has anyone heard of this one?

Anyway, thanks for all the help.

Ok,
Sorry to waste another thread on problem #1, I did some searches and read about it, so I got all the answers I need.

As for #2, the popping noise is coming from the monitor, and it most definately is electriciy jumping, if I turn all the lights out and look at my monitor chasis, I can see a little spark come off of it, like every 5 seconds or so. The weird thing is, everything seems fine, is this jumping connection a problem? What can I do about it?

Thanks

Is the arc coming from the suction cup looking thing? Is the monitor dirty? This is a common issue with a dirty tube.

DON'T CLEAN IT unless you know how to discharge a monitor correctly.

No, it is on the monitor PCB board, but as I play it, it happens less and less though :smirk:

Is my monitor slowly getting better? Is it healing itself, lol? I did take some canned air and blew off some loose dust, still pretty dirty though.

Sorry no pic, but I believe it is the flyback (little black box on the left side of the monitor board). I found a post on BYOAC

about Wells Garnders with Zenith tubes having a high failure rate, which is exactly what I have :( So does this arc mean my monitor will fail soon? It seems to be running perfectly aside from that.

The first thing to do is clean the area around the anode of the crt with some iso on a dry clean rag after properly discharging the tube. clean the glass surface between the hole the eht lead plugs into (inside the silicon rubber suction cup) and the aquadag (thats the grey sprayed on conductive coating around the rear surface of the crt)
