JAMMA troubleshooting

First off, I'm experienced in PC repair, but have no arcade cabinet experience previous to this and so I'm being a little cautious and hesitant.

I recently had a JAMMA cabinet come into my possession. It's an older cabinet, and it had been abused somewhat. It was preconfigured as a Street Fighter 2 CE (US) machine, with sideart, marquee, controls, and a SF2CE board.

Games put into the cabinet exhibit odd behavior. SF2CE, for instance, has graphic glitching across some background areas (especially Ryu's stage background) and some foreground objects (top of Ryu's head, across Zangief's shoulders). The cabinet was tested with a known-good Life Force (US) board and the problems were MUCH more severe: Some enemies cannot be killed, such as the regenerating tissues that first appear in the mid to late first stage, making the game impossible to play.

The only thing I can think of is a bad power supply, but as I'm still relatively new to this I'd like to get a second opinion. Eventually I'd like to obtain more boards for the thing (my tastes run from Pac-Man to KOF) but I need to get it stabilized with what I have. I'm half-afraid if I try to put anything else in there, it'll cook the board if there _are_ power problems.

"The cabinet was tested with a known-good Life Force (US)"

are u certain about that, the problems described could not be anything other than the boardset itself imho.

Sounds to me like you may have two faulty boards there.

edit- make sure the 5 volts is correct at the board, if not it can lead to all manner of probs.

Make sure your +5 volts is right on the money, or .05 off either way. Also, check if the connector pins are dirty or burned, that will drop your voltage. A flaky power supply may also cause similar symptoms.

Life Force uses -5 volts which the Neo Geo cabinet usually does NOt wire, so you may have some issues there. Make SURE you have the -5 going for Life Force since it uses 3 voltage dynamic ram.

I have green screen showing with random lines on my neogeo arcade

I HAVE A 1 single slot neo geo arcade was working fine , i stored it for about a year ina non climate controlled storage . I went to turn on a few of the arcades hat i own only to find that they are not working prperly anymore . I turned on the machine and got this gren startup screen the one with little squares then the green screen , then that was it it didnt go to the game screen , i have a 100 in 1 cartridge in it . So i took that out and turned it on again same screen but this time without a game cartridge in it ! Thats wierd so maybe i need a new cartridge , i do ave an extra just have to find it hopefully my board is good .

I have a tekken 2 arcade that i powered on , but didnt get anythong on the screen only a navy blue screen . So i pulled out the jamma board cleaned the connections replugged it still didnt work ! So then i did have a extra jamma board i plugged that in and viola it worked awsome . So i know my board was messed up god by tekken hello mortal combat 3 ! 👾⚡💩🔥

Regarding the cabinet with Life Force, I agree that it must be an issue with the voltage being incorrect/unstable/flaky. Regarding the 1-slot neo, check to see if the battery is leaking. Also check the bios chip by removing it, cleaning the contacts on the chip and the socket, and reinserting it. Start it up with no cart installed and check to see if you get the crosshatch screen and cycle through the self-check tests.
