adding a power switch to a cab?

I'm buying a cab, and I asked the guy "so, where's the power button on it". The answer I got was not expected: "there isn't one, I just plug it in the wall and it turns on". WTF?

So, is it possible that he's right. There in fact is NOT a power switch on here? Can I make a switch to use to turn on and off with? When I bought my system 246, it came with a ton of extra crap, and a power switch for on/off was one of them that I could mount to a cab.

So, what I'm asking is: Don't all machines have an on/off? And, if not, how do I go about installing one? It obviously goes to the power supply somehow. Thanks.

I had super 29 candy, it has a power switch behind the coin door. I have a 25 inch big red, it has a power switch too inside, but it doesn't work. I can see the switch button, reset button on the switch box, but probably isn't wired correctly.

Spike,

I had the exact same problem when I got my 6-slot MVS unit. They had apparently removed the power switch somewhere along the way, and the only way I could turn the machine on and off was using a power strip (essentially plugging it in and unplugging it).

Mine was a pretty easy fix, and I'm guessing yours will be too, but some cabs are different so I can't be certain what your particular configuration will be.

Most likely, you'll need a spdt switch (that's single pole, dual throw). This switch will be in one of two positions. One position will connect two wires simultaneously (that's the dual throw part), while the other position will disconnect them simultaneously.

Do you have the owner's manual for the board that's in the cab? If so, this manual would probably have a wiring diagram inside. That way, you could maybe scan the wiring diagram, post it here, and I could tell you for sure what type of switch you'll need and I could probably guide you through it.

No, they don't all have one. The best place to install one and what to install can be read here: http://homearcade.org/BBBB/buildit.html
Galfordo's switch is right, the picture and explanation on that page will tell you where to put it. Please make sure to to ground the switch pls.
