PS2 Controller decoder chip for purchase?

Is there anyway you can buy a ps2 decoder chip to decode the psx signal to ouput them into generic buttons so you can hook it up directly to your supergun?

Best that you can come up with is a comercial PSX->Neo adaptor and hack that....

That gives you 6 buttons and 4 directions to work with.
