(SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE PARTS PICS!!)

Here's what I have for the project...

---neo 2 slot mb with mem reader

---mvs cab parts

-includes:

-Labeled MVS Harness
-PSU
-speakers
-Marquee Light Setup

---2 Slot NOS (most likely replica) marquee

Everything above was less then $100, so I am doing ok on this project as far as the budget goes.

-------(stuff that's optional in the project)--------

I also have a couple of neo style mas sticks and a supergun that I am not beyond taking the j-rok out of.....

lots of stuff.....but not exactly sure what I want to do with it....well, I have ideas of course, but nothing for sure.

------in the back of my mind-------

Thinking of getting a frame for the marquee, using the light to get that setup on the side of some sort of arcade box for this stuff....with speakers and everything.....besides a screen. I know I have no tv with this option....but if I do go this route (my half thought out idea) I would like to have every option possible short from the neo-bitz rgb or whatever it is. Too much money for me right now. But I would like rca, s-vid, and a scart option (never made this adapter before and not sure about how to go about it)

I can make this out of wood, or thick plastic as I have recently found a place called Tap-Plastics that can make some sort of enclosure or just cut all the pieces for me for fairly cheap. (maybe $30 for all of the pieces but I would have to get it all together)

------now for you guys--------

maybe there's a better idea of what to do? Maybe you guys can think of something better for me to do with this stuff......

any ideas?

thoughts?

any side notes for my idea or things that you would do differently.

Just looking for some ideas to toss in the pot of things I will pick and pull from to make something :)

Also, dying to get a NEW project to get me back involved in gaming....as I am feeling it slipping as I hit 27 now and am working a ton.

anyways...got thoughts?

I've got a couple 21" computer monitors each with a busted chassis that I'm about to replace with arcade low res chassis'. My idea was to make a countertop machine with one of them, and the other... :conf: If you feel like you'd want it for a tabletop or whatever, I can offer it to you for pretty cheap... say $50 picked up, or add whatever the shipping is (the chassis is going to cost me $35 plus shipping, so I'm not charging much)... I'd just rather see one of my monitors being used somewhere rather than sitting in a room on the floor like they are now. That being said, I'd say do a countertop. :buttrock:

those hotel units are awesome!!! But I am not sure if I am looking to make something this big. The countertop idea sounds very cool, but how could I do that with a top loading 2 slot? Just wondering because I am trying to visualize it. If it will work, please let me know how because it sounds very cool!.

You could have a shelf for the motherboard on top of the monitor... or below... HAHA! you could make an uber mini-midget big red cab :kekeke:

I've always loved the idea of making up a small and ultra stylish VersusCity'esque cab. 2 monitors + 2 sets of controls, one on each side = almost 2 much gaming goodness ma boy!!!

You'd need an RGB amp though ;)

Yeah I hear ya on the "all work and no play" factor. I've got at least 2 SG projects going at the moment, but I just can't find the damn time to make some nice head way at the moment, AAAARRRGH!!! :mad_2: :oh_no:

You could mount the 2 slot board vertically, behind the monitor so that the carts would be inserted horizontally through the back of the system (either cut cart slots in the back of the cab or make it super long so the carts could be fully enclosed). This would require either a completely custom countertop cabinet or a really long one from some other game.

Plus side, you can easily change games. Minus side, could never be used commercially because customers could easily yank out games, break them, or steal them.

It might look pretty cool at home though.

cheers,

I've always wondered about 2/4/6 slots mounted vert...

does the weight of the cart with gravity have any effect on the MB? pulling at the sockets that the game plugs into or something?

It think if you had an edge or lip to support the cart, keep it horizontal and take most of the weight off, there wouldn't be a problem.

I was assuming that if you cut cart slots in the back they would support most of the weight of the carts. If your two slot has a metal cover it should support the carts if the board is turned vertically. I don't think I would do it with my 4 slot which has no cover. I need to get a non-working board for the metal cover...

that's a good point, thanks!

the package finally got here...haven't fully unpacked it, but will take better picks when I unpack it this week...

What's included:

-Full Harness and rear power plate to the cab, as well
as plug for the monitor, CP(no button stuff, just the
molex plug that was connected inside the cp), etc...

-The full light bar for the marquee

-PSU...w/cord and everything

-one credit LED board

-two shielded speakers

Oh, and everything is still hooked up to eachother and
everything else is labelled. Oh, and it was $30 shipped :)

Still looks like it would make an ass kickin' 2 slot countertop. :glee:

You could also install it all in a car, yeah. The 'Neo Car' or 'Arcade on Wheels' (tentative titles ;) ) get a screen that pops out of the dash, put the marquee where the glovebox normally goes. Controls that can be stashed under the dash but easily accessed in emergencies. And the super amazing....sound wired into the car stereo!

note: sorry, I'm in an odd mood tonight o_0

MORE SERIOUS HERE:
You could make a cool semi-portable system like the old 150 lb. 'portable' IBM computers from the '80s. There are quite a few jamma test rigs around sort of built into a suit case type enclosure (screen, controls, etc.), you could do that but also include the 2-slot and marquee.

cheers,
