supergun stuck in PAL mode!

alright i've figured out why the color matchup on my supergun (trade west supergun, i know i know they suck but i got it for free) is so bad. it's stuck in PAL mode and when i press the button to switch it over to NTSC mode it seems to do nothing, when the button is held down the colors line up fine and the video quality is good. i don't want to hold the button down as it would prolly damage the system. so i want to figure out how i can fix this button. those familiar with these machines know it's a pretty basic switch press it down and the button goes into one mode, press it again and it goes into another. problem is i think for some reason the button is not doing it's job and keeping me stuck in PAL mode in a world where RGB have to sync up and not in NTSC mode where i have video, and two sound cords. come on tech geniuses help me here.

couldn't you just unsolder the old switch and replace it with one that works?

Yeah, preferably a DPDT switch that you can flick in two directions.
