I googled for this a bit and didn't find anything... I've got a 50" Sony 4:3 rear projection tv that has slowly become out of focus over the years. How do I go about adjusting this? Are there any online guides on how to go about this?

Gracias!

Rear projection TVs tend to flake out way before conventional CRT TVS. The crts are driven very hard to achieve a decent contrast level. Thats why each tube is surrounded with a radiator and cooling fins.

When the emission drops off (which can be noticable only after a few years with these sets) the focus drifts, there are seperate focus and screen pots for each tube which can be tweeked, but by this stage its usually a fairly downhill slope.

Is the convergence OK ?, that can usually be adjusted via the remote in service mode.

@Robert

It's the new 2006 Honda Civic Sedan in Galaxy Grey. I'm actually taking delivery of one the middle of next month. :buttrock:

This set doesn't have a convergence built in like my Samsung (at least in the normal menu) it only gives the option for auto focus. Will there be convergence adjustment in the service menu when it's not an option in the normal menu?

Yes, but is the problem focus or convergence, is the imaged blurred or are the RGBs out of line ?

While viewing images you can see a blue boarder in certain places and a red one in others. This blue boarder is about .5"

Hmmm TV repair time. I guess you could try it yourself with service modes and tweaking some adjustments on the inside. See if there is a service mode code first somewhere on google or something. Just watch out, if you open it up and remove the lamps to get to a board or something. The lamps usually have oil inside them that can spill everywhere and burn it all up. Taking it to a TV repair-man is usually a hassle as well.
