We may consider revising two of the market rules depending on what the majority of the members prefer.

I think 24 hours is a good time to wait. I also think location should be included in your profile. If you move around a lot (like I think Charlie said), then every time you move just change your location. If you have time to sell then you have time to change your location.

Vote recorded.

I mean no offense, but since this place isn't Ebay, I don't really see how the second one applies.

RE the new rules / poll: Yes, eBay requires that seller location be displayed in a listing, makes sense.

Whilst I am in partial agreement with this, im sure you and others are aware that a lot of sellers (eBay) do not actually comply with this?
For instance US / UK sellers, Location = Japan, NEOGEO, SEGA, Heaven etc shame

Also could you please verify that for a UK & Europe members you would like us to state our: Country & County? Or Country & Town/City? help

The only major concern I have is the Town / City being displayed to anyone annoyed Which may not even arise as im not totally clear on this issue spock

Serious sellers always show their 'location' in each selling post itself.

Unless they're well-know seller in the community.

This is a community prior to be a marketplace, IMHO.

This is what I was going to say. Not like I'm going to get many unwanted visitors here but I think using eBay as an example is out of place. Selling on this site does not involve the officiality or legality of eBay and as pointed out, people lie on eBay all the time in any case so I think you could have searched for a better exemplaire.

I can see that this measure might help prevent scams but only if you are going to IP trace every time a seller posts a selling thread. Come to think of it, only 1 selling post/forum would save you chaps a lot of time should tracing be planned, eh?

Anyhow, the selection for time between posts is pretty lame. 2 minutes and next 24 hours just seems silly. If you did not want any bumping in less than 24 hours, not even say 12 15 or 20 or whatever, then don't make a serious poll a joke by chucking in 2 minutes, or better still 1 year.

How do we know if someone is really putting their correct location? I am in South Florida (Boca Raton), but could change it to Alaska?!?! Is there a way to determine this?

Has bumping really been a problem?

Why is this such a huge issue? I still don't get it.

This isn't ebay, this site doesn't require confirmation, credit card #s, etc.., etc...

How can you make members post their personal info?

I have no problem posting my address; most of the members know my address since I sell quite a bit on the forums, but some are really against this.

I voted

Good post, Kenny. I have nothing against the new rules for the most part (I really like them), but after re-reading everything, I just don't see how posting your personal information will protect the buyer. They already have 103 votes from members who want sellers to post their personal information, but would these same people be willing to post their personal info to sell something on neo-geo.com?

I have dealt with over 100 people during 2002, so its not like my personal information is sacred or anything. lol However, there is a flip side to this coin -- who will look out for the sellers on this board? Your personal info isn't something you just willingly give to a stranger just for the hell of it -- you usually keep it private between the buyer and yourself. I guess there is nothing we can do at this point except wait; what else can we do? At least the Moderators are doing their jobs by policing the board.

FYI.... EBay lets you put anything you want in the sellers location field. It in no way is mapped back to your account information or seller information at the point of sale.

I use Richmond, VA for my location. I actually live in one of the lessor know suburbs close to Richmond. Richmond is used a a general point of reference.

How many people that voted on this poll actually sell stuff on the forums?

5? If that.

How many neither buy nor sell? I bet more than the amount of sellers who voted...

My point is that even though you may want to know where the seller is, you won't. You think Aimhigh has to tell you exactly where he lives? What if he writes that he lives in Jersey or Connecticut? It's close enough, but not exact. What if the seller is honest, but always all over the place, like Kenny Boy in Detroit or California, or me in DC or Miami? Some of us have those kinds of lives.

SCREW PLAYMORE.

If they told me what I should do for my site, I'd respond saying only "MEG COUNTS"

They don't give a shit about what we want. Why should we care about them? So that they can fuck up SNK vs. Capcom? That's a huge ass pipedream - I wouldn't be surprised if they called it Playmore vs. Capcom. It's just playmore's style to ignore giving credit to where it's due. Just look at the Dreamcast release of KoF 2000.

Screw Playmore. If you thought SNK's management was fucked up, wait until you get a load of Playmore.

Since the rule change from before, I found myself do two things:
a - make a new thread because an old couldn't be bumped for an ending auction.
b - make a new thread because I couldn't edit my old post.

How is that better than before?

Because I don't want to get this website closed, do you spock

Maybe Playmore is not as good as the SNK management but they gave us steady releases for the Neo and that's why we should care for them !!

I don't see any problem with this issue,
they only want the city or state the seller is located.

I dont think giving up that I live in NY, is such a big deal.

I see some people, they have their location set at germany, but they really lives in downtown la.

Which will discourage US buyers, and confusion in UK sales.

It seems most people are going along with the rules implemented,
Bumping should not be a issue.
It doesn't hurt anybody

They can't close the website - they can cut Shawn off.

Remember that this was initially a fan site, and no corporate entity wants to fuck with that because it's horrible PR.

I Voted 24 hours and NO.
I believe that proper LOCATION should be encouraged but not forced.
If I decide to deal with somone here.I am given their address anyway plus there are issues with 3rd parties maybe gathering information for the purpose of creating some sort of hardship in the "real world".
#2 is definitely a rule going beyond the call of duty to enforce.

I never saw bumping as a problem. If it is a selling post that I have already read, I just don't go into it again. About the location thing. I think that it is cool to see when another forumite lives close to me, so we can all get together, or deal with each other for reduced shipping, but I don't think that people should be forced to put it if they don't want to.

I may even go as far as to say 12 hours is a more reasonable bumping time. However, all the people complaining about location, you must realize that this is enforced only on the sellers. So if you're really that worried about your info getting out, all a person really has to do is act like they're interested in a deal and get your address. That's as easy to do as somebody lying about their address. It's a weird rule, and it's probably gonna be abused somewhere along the way, but I don't think it's harmful. Anybody can get your personal info if they want.

I think location SHOULD be enforced for ALL users Buying/selling... that are going to use the buying/selling forums. That is a great rule.. and I think that should be enforced for anyone that is going to use the selling forums.
