Nothing beats Desoldering Braid.

D-Lite said:The pump I listed is easily the best thing I've ever used. I use braid but only for cases that don't involve ICs. It's far too easy to pull traces with braid if you're not careful.

) I'd go ahead and order a new soldering iron too. I'm wanting one of those stations with a rest and pad for the iron. Since I've never had a soldering station... What is the pad for? Excess solder? Do you guys ever use a damp rag to wipe excess solder from the iron? It really works pretty well.D-Lite said:The switchable 15/30-watt iron RadioShack sells works well for me. I can get about 4-6 uses out of the 15-watt tips with it, even cranked to 30-watts.
I may ask for a big ass soldering station for XMas though![]()
When I say 4-6 uses, I mean full-on 4-6 hour projects each. The tip is $0.99 and I replace it once in a while for the really fine work like the RGB tapping in a Turbo system.gamejunkie said:Whoa, 4-6 uses? I've had this for a few years and have never changed the tip... Is that why it takes a while for the tip to heat up after giving it full power?

I don't replace the whole iron![]()
It gets pretty hard to handle after a while.
