Has anyone built joysticks with USB output?

...figured I'd get a decent response in this forum.

I'd like to know if anyone has made joysticks/controllers for their PC with USB attachment. Did you manufacture/make the internals yourself or did you hack an existing controller/joystick?

I have with an interface box (http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86830).
It used a hacked USB gamepad. Its pretty easy to do, and even easier if you get the GP-Wiz (http://www.groovygamegear.com/cgi/surfshop/shop.cgi)
With the GP-Wiz at $20, there isn't a real reason to make the circuit yourself, and it would require a lot of work (PIC programming).

Awesome. I do believe this is exactly what I need. Thanks, toodles! I wasn't sure if such a thing were possible/economical for a small market.

Isn't there primarily one IC that everyone uses to encode signals to USB? There's a site that sells kits to convert console pads to usb, but I can't look for the site now (gotta get to class). It shouldn't be too hard to make your own circuit...

It can be done. The link below if for schematic and code for a MIDI gamepad -> USB interface, and converting it to be a neogeo->USB adapter or the main pcb for a stick would be easy. Uses a 16C765 PIC.

Even if you had the PIC programmer already, the PIC, crystal, USB plug, usb cable, misc components, and protoboard would likely run you $15. Plus the time it takes to modify the PIC code to support digital axes (axii? axees? what the plural of axis is). Nah, I'll pay the $20 if I even need usb support again.

Toodles, might you possibly be able to supply another link to your srk.com post/your picture gallery? The link isn't working anymore.
