I have a neo-cd top loader that was not spinning. Yesterday I took it apart to see if I could figure out why. While the system was apart I plugged it back in and started fucking with everything. I located the drive spin mechanism which is a horizontal white switch toward the front right of the system by the right controller port. I held it down and the drive began to spin. For some reason the little plastic piece was not triggering the drive spin mech when the door was closed. So, I super glued a pencil eraser to the end of the black tip the triggers the drive spin mech put the system back together and it works perfectly! Just thought I would let you all know maybe someone else can fix there neo as well.

i am having a similar issue to this with a ngcd i just picked up on ebay, but messing with the little white lever does nothing but lift the laser.....are there any other common problems that cause the ngcd to stop reading cds?

ok to be more specific, when i take the ng apart, i see two little silver barrel shaped "motors"; one tha tcntrols the laser, and one that looks like it shoul control the disk spinning mechanism........when i push the little white switch, the laser moves, but the cd spinner doesnt.....thoughts?

My old friend James had a similar problem with his NGCD, then it started working again after he opened it and shook it around sort of. I guess it was a loose wire connection to the motor.

Check the wires leading to it. If not that, then replace the motor from an electronics parts store. I am not sure how hard it is to find the right motor, but just make sure it has the same voltage, speed and the size isn't too big to fit. Write down the part number and look it up on all the online electronic stores.

Actually the black plastic piece that pushes down on the switch just has to be cleaned. You can do this with a little bit of simple gren or preson it manually with a phillps head screwdriver to knock the grime loose and then it works like new. I have had 4 units that had this problem and got them for a steal and thats all I had to do to fix them.

i thought the same thing about cleaning the little black piece, but then i took the system apart and and pushed directly on the white switch (effectively bypassing the black piece all together) and i still only got a response from the motor that controls the lens.......i guess i will just have to shake it and see if i can get a loose connection to fall into place.

i have a few more days to try and fix it before my time period is up with paypal to get a refund. *sigh*, i really was hoping i could get a working system after all these years.....

Just go ahead and get a refund. Make sure the description of the system mentions working or no working on the ebay auction.

That is messed up that someone would sell a NGCD that doesn't spin the disc but tries to read only with a lens. It could of course been the shipping process, but not most likely the case if the motor straight up doesn't run.

I know this is almost 2 years after this thread but I had the same problem with my NeoGeo CD unit. I got it off of ebay and it was in super condition when I got it. It looked brand new. No scratches or blemishes of any kind and not a speck of dust inside as well. Anyway I turned it on to test it out with World Heroes Jet (original not copy) and it went to the "player" screen but the disc would not spin. The laser mechanism would move and the eye would move up an down, but no spinning. I got to messing around with the suggestions given in this thread and they led me find out that the black disk the CD sits on was pushed down too far and was catching on the drive motor when the lid closed and it moved forward. So I gently pulled it off and reseated it on the tiny silverpost ir was sitting on and that did the trick! A little pot adjustment and it plays perfectly now. Hopefully this will help someone in the future. Thanks for such an awesome website!

Now if we could just find a laser for it that would read like 10 to 18x lol

Lol, seems like a faster Neo CD is a pipe dream among some users here. XD

So is it technically impossible to make the Neo CD faster I assume?
