There are 3 games I sold off that I give a damn to still think about. Wait, I sold Magic Sword? 4. Damn, I hate that your health depletes over time. Anyway, I've got some confessions to make. I'm such a hardass, and sometimes imperfections in gameplay drive me over the edge.

Psycho Soldier: Very classic gameplay style bridging the gap between the early and late 1980's. It's a bit too repetitive for its own good, and the final boss is too tough SNK style. So close to gold.

Gunbarich: Great play-for-points value... if the levels weren't played in random order fudging the numbers up.

The Outfoxies: This is the exact opposite of the above two - The gameplay isn't so great, but I appreciate the amount of work put into the game.

It'll be a nice day when I get my head out of my butt and learn to enjoy these games (Psycho Soldier and Gunbarich, at least).

Game on.

Damn, you had an Outfoxies? I've been wanting to buy one of those for awhile now. I agree the game play isn't so great but the fact that the battlefield consists over a large area and all the different stuff you can do made it different from other fighters. I really didn't see this one in the arcades.

I've had several games in the past I wish I would've hung on to, especially Firefox, Satan's Hollow and a Bubbles CT. As far as one of my favorites you happen to mention...Psycho Soldier...I still have the working PCB amd I have beaten it on one credit...harder than hell though ;)

Do you know of any tricks to beat the boss other than to go crazy with the psychoballs, die, use the replenished psychoballs, die, repeat?

On my drive to work today I was thinking about Psycho Soldier. Well, I began by thinking about Brian Eno's 2004 album "Another Green World". I feel exactly the same way about that album as I do Psycho Soldier. There are some damn good moments, and it feels complete, but something is a bit off balance. There are many other instances where I have the same feelings about two different art medias, however, I find it strange that I can tolerate not fully enjoying a music album but I can't handle not fully enjoying a game. I haven't thrown away my AGW album, or sold it off. It's still here, and I listen to it when I'm in the mood. Hmpf.

The first trick is to go into the last battle with as many lives as possible. The second is to have level three firepower and the second most powerful psychoballs (the ones that travel up-n-down three platforms straight across). The boss moves in a set pattern. Try and make as many shots as you can with your shots (when fully powered, they count as three hits each). If open, use your psychoballs on the boss and also against the bouncing balls that are shot out. To kill the boss with one life is pretty much out of the question so try and do as much damage as humanly possible.

When you die and come back in your ship, get close to the boss as you can and fire like mad. You can get 10 to 15 hits on him before you appear. Dodge and try to hit...repeat and hopefully you have enough lives to finish the job. IIRC I believe it takes 100 regular shots to kill the final boss.

If you do go into the final battle with total psycho power, you'll have four or five blasts at the boss but that'll leave you very defenseless so try and go for the second most powerful mode. That's how I did it ;)

Now I feel like getting my board and hooking Psycho Soldier back up and playing it :buttrock:

I have heard this game is a very large pcb. I was wondering if you could post a pic of it so I could see for myself.

It sounds like the last boss is a little less cheap than I remember... at least somewhat manageable.

Cool game - I hope some day I can play it and enjoy it as it should be.

Curious, do you have the japanese PCB? How do you like the music for the version you own? I had the US version, and I actually liked the vocals. They definitely had their charm.

Mine is the U.S. version and I really like the background musics to it, especially the Psycho Soldier song ;)

I use to own but sold off the following:

Hit the Ice (Four Player)

Tetris

Power Instinct

Skins Game

Decathlete

Capcom Bowling

Baby Pac Man

A volley ball game that I can't remember the name.

I now only own a two slot MVS unit. I had bought the above items years ago from an arcade that was closing down but sold them off when I moved. I would really like to have them back now.

MAN. US Championship V'Ball. I love that game. I must have been ultra bitter one week to sell it. It had some stupid timer on it so even if you weren't finished a match the winner would be selected by points. Actually, I think the rule was you had to beat the CPU before the timer ran out. I forget. I just know it pissed me off.

I don't know if I had the same one or not. The one I had was very hard. If you lost or were behind on points when the timer ran out, you lost and had to start at the first match again. I could usually win the first two or three matches before getting my ass kicked.

...sold the cab for $50...

You just like rubbing it in, don't you?

I'd imagine it would be hard to play on a cab, though. I only ever played it on a supergun, so it was easy for me to buttonmash the power spikes with my more comfortably held joysticks.

There was a port to the NES, too.

I actually got really good deals on all of the games in my list except for Baby Pacman.

The most I paid was $125 (per cab) and that was for Skins Game, Power Instinct and Hit the Ice. The others were all under $100. There is no way that I could get those back for those prices today :(

I also picked them up locally, so there was no shipping.
