Why I enjoy collecting arcade games

I quickly discovered, or maybe I should say remembered tonight why I prefer to have the original game pcbs in contrast to playing them emulated. I borrow Midway arcade treasures 3 and the Capcom Classics Collection for the xbox from a friend. There were subtle difference in sound and game speed that makes it quite annoying to play a number of the games. Stun-Runner in particular was going much faster then I remember the actual arcade game running. I haven't really ever been impressed by any commercially emulated game or collection. Yet its funny how the free home grown emulators seem to run better then the commercial ones.

I guess because the Emulators are emulating the original hardware and the games re-released on an xbox are using the xbox to run the games, therefor the games arent running how they should be.

I enjoy collecting actual arcade cabinets for another reason. A lot of the games I enjoy playing, the graphics/sounds can be emulated but IMO the controls can't be duplicated. Yes you can spend hundreds of dollars coming up with a similar set of controls but it's just not the same to me. The one game that comes to mind is Discs Of TRON. The game has an optical spinner wheel that can be pushed/pulled for variable heights. I've seen a couple of people reproduce this and literally they could have bought the machine for the price they paid. Overall I wasn't too impressed by the feel. I guess you can call me a "control freak" :kekeke:

Have you ever seen the environmental cab version of discs of tron. Not only is it fucking huge it looks like it'd fun as hell to play. I know a guy that has one. He even got the control panel signed by an actress from the movie (the name escapes me).

What do you mean "environmental cab?"

Yes I have one and enough parts to make one. The sounds, voices and lights all combined together make the game a lot better than the upright. You probably mean Cindy Morgan who played Yuri in the movie.

Hmm that sounds like it might be right. I really need to give my buddy a call and see if that thing is working. He told me he found out front of some guy's house and paid 600. Not a bad price for an EDOT.
