Just bought a cab, having very weird problems with the monitor. It powers up, but the image is "seperated" Like there was a solid image that got pulled apart in either direction. Causes images to double on the screen and there are big gaps between scanlines. I've messed with every pot I could find, no luck. Is this a monitor issue, chasis issue, or power supply issue? Any help is appreciated. :help:

What type of cab is it?..US or Japanese/Candy.

With a US cab you may want to check to see if the wires to the Isolation transformer are on/not loose etc.(just a thought)

Have you tried another PCB..?

I have a Tekken 2 pcb that creates a similar problem on the monitor when plugged in.

Normally when there's garbage on the screen, it could be related to board problems. Can you post any pictures?

Isn't the board, as it does it with everything I've tried. I even got to the point that I ran my super gun on my TV in tandem with the monitor (providing it with the RGB signal of course) same results. I even eliminated the power supply on the cab, just plugged the monitor right up to an outlet.

All I can guess is that somewhere between the monitor chasis getting the signal , and the monitor putting it out. Something is screwy.

I'll post pics as soon as I can get my hands on a digital camera.

It's a Korean built candy, monitor is an Orion(?)

I can't find any numbers on it. I'd believe it would just be a standard monitor, nothing special.

Looks like the monitor is a medium or high res monitor, not a standard res.

Try connecting a medium res board like NFL Blitz or Crusin USA or a high res board like a Naomi.

Crap, don't have anything like that. Does this mean I can't use any standard boards? Anyway to convert the signal if this is true? What's the resolution of a medium rez monitor? Dot pitch is fairly large on this one that's why I'm asking.

Thanks for letting me know about Blitz being 24khz! I totally overlooked that. Now I have to get a cabinet. :( Isn't there a jamma convertor board though?

Actually Blitz has a dip switch for standard or medium res.

Standard res-15KHz
Medium res-24KHz
High res/VGA-31KHz

You might look on the monitor's chassis(circuit board) to see if there is a connector you can move to change it to standard res. Several newer monitors are dual res.

My Blitz erection has been lifted! I saw the boards have a vga port, but after reading about Sega Model 1-3 boards I was kinda leery.

Ah...you must have seen the newer Blitz 2000 boards using Midway Vegas hardware. The Blitz I have (Blitz '99) uses the Midway Seattle hardware. I believe the Vegas Blitz games still have the low res switch, since Gauntlet Legends/DL do, but I can't guarantee that.

EDIT-I also have Gauntlet DL, and it has options for low res, medium res, and a VGA mode so you can connect a PC monitor direcly.

Yeah, I think it had an extra board that did vga, can't really remember.

I'm about to get a hell of a deal on a couple Blitz setups, so you're saying I can switch the original Blitz between 15khz and 24khz? Also, do these boards draw power from the jamma connector?

Yeah, both the older and newer Blitz boards are mostly standard JAMMA. For Blitz make sure you set the res dip to low res, and the joystick dip to 8way unless you have the extra 49way opto joystick board.

For stereo sound on either board type you use the standard JAMMA speaker connection for left, and the the adjacent top and bottom JAMMA pins for right.
