There is a non conducting coolant liquid that you can have things like computers run in and not blow up but that's not exactly cleaning your genesis...

Does the actual motherboard smell?
Put it next to an open window for a day or something, might work.

Its probably just the case that smells... unless the MOBO coating somehow sucked some of the stench up. I would think you would be fine just cleaning the case really good.

One thing you can try... I got some totally gross smells out of my bro-in-law's computer (smoke, dust, dog hair... it was gross and CAKED on all of the fans and boards along with mouse droppings since one of the slot covers was off) using Isopropal and q-tips... let it dry for quite a while to make sure it's no longer volatile!! I once emptied a whole bottle of Iso over a pc mobo to try and clean the gunk on it!! mobo still worked after I was done...

yeah, his house stays fairly clean, but they are in the walls... tiny little things to have crawled through a PCI slot... ;) Damn dog is worthless as a mouser though!! :make_fac:

As UncaJJ pointed out, Isopropyl Alcohol works pretty good, in conjunction with cotton pads (the cosmetic kind) and Q-tips for those hard to reach places. (In other words, don't soak it in the alcohol; just use the cotton to clean it).

A good compressed air can works great for drying it off afterwards.

Take the case off and throw it in the dishwasher.

Don't let it set inside during the drying cycle.

That's what I would do, or spend $10 on another genny that doesn't stink.
