My monitor went out on my computer yesterday. It's a 21inch Nokia 445Xiplus. It powers on, but there is no picture. Do you guys think this is something worth getting fixed or should I just junk it. If I should junk it, do any of you know of a suitable replacement CRT monitor for a decent price. Looking for something in the 19-21 inch range. I know some of you will say go to an LCD screen but I really dont need anything that pricey. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am using my neighbors PC :(:(:( .

Phillip

Is there a noticeable difference between a .22 and .25mm dot screen?

Also, I am in the US so I need a place over here in the states to save omn shipping.

There is a difference between .22 and .25mm, the difference is .22 = clear sharp image and .25 = not clear and sometimes even fuzzy image.

A good CRT monitor would be one of the Sony Trinitron monitors, they come in sizes from 17" to 21" so finding one isn't hard and on eBay they are pretty cheap.

There are some 24"ers going for around $250-$300 on ebay, but if you want something in the 21" range you can get them for under $200 shipped.

Be carefull though, all crt's go bad at one point or another.

What would you suggest oing with. Most of the monitors are about $200-$300 after shipping but I found this one by my house:

What do you think?

Yeah,

My Nokia is a .22 and the Trinitrons are all .24mm. Damn.. I really wish this one could have lasted till the end of the year. Thats when I was planning on purchasing a new LCD Monitor. Now I have to get something quickly as my wife does her homework on this one.

If you watch Dell's promotions you can find their 21" lcd for around $350.

I'm not really sure about that monitor because I've never heard of the brand name...

I have this monitor in the 19" version and it's amazing! Given the 19" cost me $350...

Shipping might be tough from newegg, but that's were you'll find the most reviews on monitors and which one would be best for you.

Oh, if you read about someone complaining about 2 thin lines running horizontally across the screen... that is nothing to worry about. I forgot what it's called but my Lacie has them and they are so small you can only see them on a totally white screen, and then you really don't notice them. They are perhaps smaller than a dead pixel on a lcd, but less annoying because the lines are just a darker/lighter shade of the image you are viewing.

I think the Samsung CRT's are supposed to be some of the best around.

Before you go around, and assume your monitor is completelly dead, I suggest that you open up the back, and take a look around... don't touch anything that will shock the shit out of you. It may be as simple as a blown fuse, in which case, you go down to an electronics store, and spend a buck fifty on a new fuse instead of buying a new monitor all together. I know your pain though... I've got two dead 21" crt monitors in the other room... I know these are dead though... the chassis' are burnt up. I don't want to toss them (for one, if you get caught putting them in the dumpster it's a $1000 fine  ) because the tubes are still in awesome condition, and that's $50 saved if I can find a monitor that needs a replacement tube. Some other great brands = viewsonic, and Hitachi (one of the dead ones is a hiachi that lasted over 10 years  ... until the connector finally gave way)
