I hear about this all the time and how it helps old monitor quite a bit. I would like to try this on a couple of my monitors and would like to know more information. What does it exaclty entail? Just replacing the alum. elec. caps or more? Can anyone point me in the right direction for a guide or how-to or something similar? Thanks,

Eddie

Cap kit describes pretty much the whole thing. Just replacing the alum. elec. caps. Some older monitors do have some extra stuff, but nothing more complicated than caps are. The Wells Gardner K4600 is one of these...it has an extra resistor and a potentiomer to replace as well, that comes in the kit.

I have 2 japanese Hitachi monitors. I'm pretty sure I'll have to buy the caps individually. Is there anything I should buy besides the caps?

No, just the alum. elec. caps are the main thing. Usually other parts only get replaced if they are failing/dead.

What improvements will I see if I replace them?

That depends. If you are actually having problems that are caused by bad caps, you will see big improvements, if you are not having any problems, or the problems are not caused by caps you willl see no improvement at all. Cap kits are not a monitor fix-all. But they will fix specific problems caused by bad caps.

Well, at the bottom of my screen, things get a bit blurry. Things like the credit disply are blurry.

I would take a look around the board for any caps that look burnt or are leaking (being mindful of high voltages) if you see any, try replacing those first. You should also try and get someone who is in the know about these to take a peep at it. Maybe post a pic of the problem on the screen here and see if someone more knowledgeable than myself has an idea of how to fix it.

cheers,
