Controller Pinout Order

I've been building my supergun, and I'm wrapping up the controller ports part. They're the standard neo-geo 15-pin male controller ports, but I have a question about the ordering of pins.

If you are looking at the controller port as it is facing you (you are looking at the part that is on the outside of the case, as if you are about to connect a controller), how are the pins ordered?

Does it go like:

01 02 03 04 ...
09 10 11 ...

Or is it like:

08 07 06 05 ...
15 14 13 ...


I know this is a stupid question, but I'm trying to make absolutely sure I have it correct. Thanks for your help.

The Dsub Connector should have tiny numbers on it....

The ones that I have don't seem to, at least for the male port connector and also the controller cable.
