I was wondering if anyone has upgraded their xbox ram here and how was it? I'm looking at upgradeing mine to get the home brew stuff running better, not sure if I should buy a professional job for 80 bucks or do it my self for 20 or so.

If upgrading the RAM on a PC is the same way as on the Xbox then I don't know why you would even consider paying $80 for someone else to do it lol.

It's nothing alike, at all. It always seemed to be way too risky for me to try it myself, although it was tempting. If the install service has a gurantee against screw-ups, then I would go with that.

"lol"

Inserting a RAM module into a RAM slot and soldering 400 points to a motherboard are not the same thing.

Does it cost only 20$ in parts? I thought you needed to sacrifice some PC video cards to do this. I guess I have outdated info.

You have to buy special SAMSUNG ram chips, kind of rare, but cost about 20-30 bucks for 4 depending on where you get them. I naturally am going to be loading MAME on my XBOX and throwing it in my candy cab, so the extra ram will be welcomed. I have done allot of mod chips, but this is allot more teadious.

Belive its worth it, gamers like KI & KI2 won't even run or a normal xbox, but run very well on a upgrded 1, got it rom the states, so when I swapped over the 110v psu to a 240v 1 I had a quick look at the job in question, looks factory produced, I once see some site offering to do it for you or sell you pre-done boards, quick spec of my machine:

Kasumi Xbox System w/ Mobo v 1.0
- Memory upgrade to 128mb
- 250GB Western Digital HDD upgrade
- Samsung DVD Drive upgrade
- Aladdin XT Modchip + 4981.67 bios
- Blue/White LED Power Eject Assembly mod
- Blue LED Controller Ports mod
- 8mb memory card with Power On/ Off button mod (allows you to turn system on/ off from your controller).

"Normal" Xbox's runs Killer Instinct 1 fine, and Killer Instinct 2 with some slowdown, I don't know what you are talking about.

Yeah, KI 1 and 2 is mostly what it's for, along with CPS2 games. N64 and PS1 emulation is also supposed to be helped by it. I love my MVS collection, but I hoinstly don't feel like dishing out 150+ bucks each for KI1 & 2 baords. It would be a wet dream if someone could get a Sega Saturn emu going on it, but I don't see it happening this late in the game.

Getting Saturn/STV emulated full speed on a P3 733 would be a miracle in itself.

It actually depends on the xbox revision. Newer xboxes 'supposedly' (from a friend who got his xbox a month ago) are a bit different, and, now, even though there is a spot for the little ram chip, it isn't connected to anything (he would know), so, if you were to upgrade the xbox, it might not matter. Plus micro$oft will ban you from xbl for ANY modification to your xbox

You can't upgrade a 1.6, but thats about it. Also, they won't band you for "any modification", they will ban you if you boot off a hacked bios. The bios boot stores it's self in the ram and when you get on XBL it looks at it. However, this is tottaly irrlevant because I have no wish to get on XBL, this XboX's soul purpose is to emulate inside my neo candy cab to keep me from haveing to swap 1000 differnt arcade boards back and fourth.

Just wondering, wouldn't it be easier to use a PC than a xbox in a cab?

The reason why I'm useing an XboX over a PC is I can also play CPS3, Naomi and Atomiswave games that have been ported to XboX, you have no hope of playing any of that on a PC. I'll be playing Guilty Gear Isuka, Metal Slug 6, Neo Battle, Street Fighter 3, MVC2 ect.. ect.. not to mention the cost of an XBoX v.s. a PC that is equal in emulation power is vast, my whole setup is going to cost me about 150-200 bucks. Another great thing is I can take my xbox out of town with me and play it on a standard TV screen then just hook it back into my JAMMA harness via. home made adapter. Really allot of great advantages to using an XboX. I'm doing this now because the 360 has smushed the prices down really low, so I can make my Emulation boX even cheaper.

To address the "easiness" of using a PC over an XboX, I think it may actually be easier. All you have to do is use a SCART cable, strip the synch out of the composite, and bam, you’re hooked up.

I guess you are right, from that point of view using a xbox makes a lot of sense. Now that you mentio this if I ever get a cab I'll consider installing a xbox on it instead of a PC. Just wondering, how are you going to handle the controllers?

That's because you have the possibility to face more than one opponent at the same time. There's hardly any other option in that situtation. At least is an original fighter.

I actually enjoy it manually, because it allows me to pull off strategies you really couldn’t before, especally when useing characters like venom. It just takes a little bit to adjust.

I’m going to do the controls similarly to how you would do any controls, just hack two xbox pads and wire them up, only instead of directly going to the buttons of the cab, I’ll be attaching the live / ground to the JAMMA finger board via bread board for the first 3 buttons. After the first 3 buttons I’ll just do it kick harness style, and add however many buttons I deem necessary to navigate an xbox.
My cab right now, is setup exclusively for NeoGeo two slot MVS, so I'll be haveing to do a compleelt re-work on the controle panel face plate.

Another cool bonus to using an xbox, is you can pre-load full xbox games on the HD, making it so you not only never have to swap board but you can keep from swapping DVD’s/CD’s as well. Makes for a nice compact little fighting game archive weather or not you have a cab or not.

P.S.
You don't happen to have a AES system and a digital camera do you? ^_^?

Yeah, I looked at that guide, sounds nutty to me. What I'm going to be doing is useing a pen tip / hot air soldering technique with a pocket watch repair station.
