Hi,

here is a pic of my ps2 stick ( currently on order ) and my supergun setup.

I had been currently using a PS2 Neo stick 2 with a Neo adapter.....

4 standard MVS buttons map fine but the AW 5th button maps to MVS "select" with this supergun which is inconvenient.

I thought about simply swapping select and button 5 on the pad, however, having searched here , I have seen some really good looking stick -> neo conversions, so thought that might be the way to go .....

I am looking to construct:

A B Select

C D

as my button layout, and retain just the "player start" button functionality

I can solder, have seen the diagrams for the Neo Pinout, however, I have no idea how to wire up the buttons and the stick ......

I am not bothered in keeping it as PS2 functional, and want it solely dedicated to A/wave ( my cabinet is now CPS2 only )

So i go out and buy the relevant PC cable, cut the end off and then I need to wore up the stick and relveant 6 buttons ( 5 + start )

1) How do I know which of the core wires maps to which pin on the male connector ? does this info come with the purchased cable ? Any recommendations on sourcing ?

2) For NEO only I don't need any PCB to compress the data, so can I simply wire buttons and stick to the connector in direct fashion based on the pinout diagram ?

3) I dont understand how the buttons are linked, as there is a lot of cross wiring - anyone have a diagram of how to simply hook up the buttons ? I'll know what I amup against when the stick actually arrives, and I can get the back off....

4) Is it possible to source spacers to block off the unused buttons ?

Thanks for any help

That is the Neo pinout, that SG follows it. You need to take a wire from whatever button you plan to use as "E" and run it to Pin 3 on the control port. You'll also have to chain the ground from your "D" button to it aswell. You'll have to use a multimeter to find out what cable runs from what pin on the new cable you buy.

If I had that stick I'd lose the top 3 buttons and have an A B C D E layout.

If your going to use it solely for your supergun, then I would gut the whole joystick (take out the PCB) and wire it up for your supergun. I have no clue how superguns are wired, but if they have the same pin out as a Neo Geo, then you can rewire your stick according to the Neo. Edit: One more thing, my opinion would only work if the joystick and buttons have microswitches. Considering how much they cost, I will guess they have microswitches.

I'm sure other members will have their opinions, but that was mine.

I think they have DB-15 male pinouts which is what the Neo uses, so yes the pinouts are the same on superguns.

well.....

I found the button covers and if necessary, Sanwa buttons are cheap enough to replace the 5 buttons I am intending on using....

So I gut the system, get my cable and ID each core strand for its function using the pinout map then what..... ?

If the sanwa buttons are used, they have two attachment points to make a complete circuit, so I bring in my id'd cable, wire to the button, but what
do I wire to then to complete the circuit ? I understand the pricnciple of each microswitch having a different function, and being wired to each individual strand having that function on the jamma connector. What I don't understand is how to do the next bit and complete the circuit.... ?

Sorry if this sounds really stupid, but I have no real circuit building experience......
( most difficult thing I have done so far is make a JAMMA extension cable )

One other question is on the pinout guide for NEO - is that looking at a male plug or a female socket ?

Cheers

To close the circuit, you need a wire that connects to the other pin of all switches and is connected to ground.

AJ.....

many thanks for the input.....

so, can I literally string from button to button and then finally to ground, or, lets say I have 6 sanwa buttons do I take all 6 lead off wires, splice into one and then connect that to ground ?

in slightly related question is that why a sanwa stick has 5 pins - u,d,l,r and ground ?

Thanks

oh....

ignore my stuped question about the male female thing, as thats answered by the link given earlier.......

One final point is what about the +5V pin ? where do I need to wire that ? or not at all as I am assentially building an old style stick....

Thanks again

You shouldn't need a +5volt line the individual wires and the common ground should be enough. Also... I have a quick suggestion... don't block off the three top buttons... just get a multi pole double throw switch, and wire up the three uppers, and the three buttons directly below it for cps2... then you have a kick ass universal stick to take with you to meets and stuff :D

its a good idea.......

BUT, I already have a Sega Aero City cab at home running CPS2 ( I have about 5 CPS2 games so far )

I really only need this for A/Wave..., as I am running it on my TV for a higher res picture right now.....

Not sure if I understand what you mean, but it's OK to just connect all buttons ground connection one-to-the-next and the last of them to the ground pin of your supergun.

Amano Jacu......

actually this stick is REALLY clear and easy to understand as it arrived today and I had the back off it. Wiring the ground is kind of obvious once I'd seen it so the buttons are no longer a problem....

One final question........ this stick has a Sanwa style connector with 5 wires feeding of the stick - as per my last question ..... whats the 5th wire for ? is it a common ground for the 4 microswitches on the stick ?

I have found my external PC cable source, so once I close this last question I am ready to roll !!

MANY THANKS !

pinout....

Hi,

I notice that from the web link showing the Neo contoller pinouts, that the diagram shows 2 different connections for the 'D' button ? Is there any reason why ?

IN addition, I assume NC means not connected ?

Thanks
