Yus apparently Nintendo have sneaked out an updated SP to match the Micro, a nice backlit screen. This new tech is on the new Graphite & Pearl Blue versions.

Comparison, old screen left, new on right.

This only hurts themselves, or they realized that grown men can't play the micro because its so damn small.

I can't fucking wait to get it though, I'm such a whore for the GameBoy line...

Hmmmm, backlit DS or Backlit GBA?

It's a hard choice to make, on one hand I like my own front-lit GBA for its ability to play the GB and GBC games I have, but I'm not sure that warrants a new purchase. On the other hand, the DS can play the GBA games with stereo speaker output and a wider controller pad for a more comfortable game playing experience.

Any GBA or GBAsp owner should seriously consider buying a DS just for re-playing all their GBA lybrary. I assure it's well worth. Not only briter and bigger, the DS screen (you choose which one to use for the GBA games) is just BETTER. GBA games look amazing on the DS, I swear to god.

Well I finally came up with the reason for Sony's shoddy manufacturing habits:

Nintendo builds as many quality consoles as possible, and Sony is left with the scraps...

I thought that was confirmed as being a hoax?

Has anyone actually seen one with their own two eyes?

This has got to be fake. There i absolutely no monetary incentive whatsoever for nintendo to spend money to update the SP screen. Aside from its size, the Micro's largest selling point is its fantastic screen. Spending the money to update the screen would not be smart because now there is really no incentive to buy the Micro (the SP is still pretty small). Finally, I truly believe that one of the reasons the Micro and DS do not play regular GB games is because they are phasing it out. Updating the SP to increase sales just doesn't fit with that philosophy.

Its not exactly like a new SP.

Its just got a better screen. They probably dont even manufacture the old ones anymore.

Its like the old PS2 vs. new PS2 (or psOne for that matter). Same thing, just better.

This looks like either a fake or not official from nintendo, maybe some party has installed an afterburner-like mod to some SPs and is selling them... Any confirmation on the officiality of that thing?

I found this OLD (6/6/03) article about a backlit GBA:

http://www.gamecubicle.com/news-nintendo_gamecube_backlit_backlight_game_boy_advance_gba_cnn.htm

I'm embarassed to admit that if they did release a backlit GBA, I might actually buy one. One of my biggest problems with the GBA was the washed-out frontlit screen, where all the colors look dull and muted. If they released a backlit GBA, it would in my opinion blow away both the DS (too big and bulky, useless second touch screen) and the micro (too small and cheesy). I'm still not sure about the long-term comfort of the dpads on any of the Nintendo handhelds, but a backlit screen would go a long way to resolving the weakness of that system, IMO.

Of course this could just be another hoax, or a hacked Afterburner-style mod (I never liked the Afterburner kits at all), but who knows.

Rational post regarding this subject.

Wow.

Well whenever discussions of the GBA, GBASP, etc. came up, I always stated that I LIKED the games being released (many great SNES ports and 16-bit style 2D games), but I really couldn't stand the hardware. I think Nintendo could have designed their handhelds better, but for some reason they just couldn't step up and do it. Really, what I would prefer to this (possibly fake) backlit SP, is a backlit GBA itself, maybe with an improved d-pad or analog controller. I still like the size and feel of the GBA better than the SP, its just that the screen on the original GBA was unplayable. Backlight the original GBA system, and you'd have something that in my opinion would blow away their entire line, including the DS.

I had a Black GBA Sp handheld once and the small screen was backlit enough to see the games better, but I traded my black GBA Sp + 5 GBA games to get the DS handheld & it does have a better backlit screen than the Sp does. I'll never trade with EB.games again because when I was online it said trade in your GBA Sp + any 3 GBA games to get a Nintendo DS handheld and when my mom's boyfriend went to take the stuff to EB.games and they said that they wanted 2 more games & I had to trade my Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku & Rayman 3 which had to be brought in to trade. :(

I traded,

Altered Beast: Guardian Realms
Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku
Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
Wario Land 4
X-Men: Reign of Apocalypse

Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku was my favorite GBA game even though it was a short RPG game, but the characters, animals & dinosaurs looked just like the anime and now I am going to collect,

Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku
Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku II
Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury
Dragonball Z: Supersonic Warriors
Dragon Ball GT: Tranformation
DragonBall Z: Taiketsu

Anyways, I don't think that buying another GBA Sp with a new and improved backlit screen is going to be selling much money & since the DS handheld already has a better backlit screen, why would someone need another GBA Sp when they can get the DS instead. :glee:

I should buy a Pearl Blue GBA Sp for my little 6 year old niece Alyssaso she can play some games like,

Super Mario Advance
Super Mario Advance 2
Super Mario Advance 3
Super Mario Advance 4
Classic NES Series: Donkey Kong
Disney Princess
Disney’s Cinderella: Magical Dreams
Disney's Kim Possible 2: Drakken's Demise
Kim Possible 3: Team Possible
Dora the Explorer: Super Spies
Dora the Explorer: The Search for Pirate Pig's Treasure
Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat
Finding Nemo / Monsters Inc. Double Pack
Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Games
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

But her GBA Sp & games will stay here at my house because her older half-brother will probaby steal them like he stole my older brother by getting greedy and selling his Midway's Arcade Treasures vol.#1 for the PS2 for about $2 and he wanted to get MGS3: Snake Eater for the PS2 since he was trading in some of his games. :oh_no: I bought my older brother the game last year on his 29th birthday & I will buy him some more games for his 31st birthday next year. I'll will buy him another Midway's Arcade Treasures vol#1, then Midway's Arcade Treasures vol.#2, Capcom Classics Collection, Namco Museum, Namco Museum 50th Anniversary Arcade Collection & Sega Classics Collection since he likes playing retro games. ;)

If this is actually real I'd probably buy one. I like the SP more than the Micro, and if it were the same price as the regular SP I'd save a lot of money instead of going with a DS.

Yup, its the real deal. Just got off the phone with my local GameCrazy and they have them in stock @ $79

Heading down there in about 10 minutes, after I leave work, to get one.

Nice. I guess I'll own a handheld again soon.
