I've always liked the music to Pulstar and Blazing Star. They fit the mood of the game and sound really good for a cart.

That's a hard one. I will probably have to go for KOF 96 and then 99. KOF 96 have those cool Jazz music. It also fits nicely w/ the awesome background.

You know after Marvel vs. Capcom 2, I've come to appreciate Jazz type melodies in fighting games. Don't know why...maybe RR4 influenced this new taste in music.

Best music... the very best I think is Waku Waku 7... the instruments sound so real, and the singing on the few tracks is crystal clear... plus the game rocks. After that, Sonic Wings 3 has a killer techno soundtrack that sounds just as good today as it did in 1995... "Why does it have to be so damn tough!"... That is a good soundtrack.

For SNK,alot of the music sounded the same to me. Pulstar had some nice music. I always have loved the BGM in I-Spy for the DC.

These times, the KOF2K ending music is floating all around my head (what a blast!!).
But i won't forget the music of Samurai Shodown series...

Worst music: AOF3 parade, KOF97 amusement park

This is a hard one. I think almost all of the games have great music. But if I had to choose just one, it would have to be KOF98.

I think some of the best cart music is in KOF 96 the boss stage, but overall I will go with Pulstar. The peaceful music in the waterfall stage and the BOSS music is unforgetable no matter how long ago you played it. I do think MOTW has some good music at the END stage with Kain...

My favorite soundtracks on Neo-Geo games are:

Last Resort- "Jack To The Metro" (Stage 1) kicks ass.

Pulstar- All the tunes are great, though stage 2 is outstanding.

Viewpoint- Just jaw-dropping incredible. What more can I say?

KOF'94- Rugal's 2nd theme rocks. The Mexico, England, and USA BGMs also are great.

KOF'95- the Psycho Soldier team BGM and the one for King's team

Fatal Fury 3- Geese's new theme for this game.

KOF'96- King's BGM, Krauser's BGM, and Goenitz's BGM (this one is nice and ominous, fitting the wrecked stadium well)

KOF'97- Athena's theme, Billy Kane's theme.

KOF'98- All the tracks.

Neo Turf Masters- the Fujiyama Japan course BGM.

Bust-A-Move- OK, there's only one tune- but it is extremely good. Matter of fact, I just listened to it on Taito's Zuntata History Vol 2 CD.

Bust-A-Move Again EX- more tunes than the first one, and it's got a nice remix of the original.

I would have to agree with TheDijin, PULSTAR and BLAZING STAR have incredible music. The end of BLAZING STAR is very cool.

I agree with my colleague from La-La Land that Waku-Waku 7 has the best overall soundtrack (followed closely on its heels by the Metal Slug series)

KOF'97-Iori BGM, Orochi NFT BGM, Blood Riots BGM, Billy Kane BGM, Kyo BGM, Yamazaki BGM

KOF'98-Orochi NFT (all 3) BGM, Shingo BGM, All of the above BGM's that make it into this game.

KOF'99-Iori BGM, Kyo BGM, Clones BGM, Ikari team BGM

Metal Slug-It's all good.

Iori- The worst KOF soundtrack still beats MVC2's crummy music.

Overall, I'd have to say KOF96, Viewpoint, SS2 (atmosphere), or Pulstar.

Individually:

Santanas Bar - AOF3

SS4 - guitar theme

Oddly enough, FFWA music is great to me.....

Nobody mentioned my favorite, which is Last Blade 2. The music is very haunting and fits the mood of the game perfectly. Also Lee's ending music is hillarious.

The choice for me actually varies between soundtrack CD and hearing the music whilst playing the game. It can be rather different I tell you. So, for in-game: Magician Lord. For OST CD: The King of Fighters '96/Samurai Shodown.
