Ok guys, just got a Neo Geo 1 slot (model MV-1) yesterday. It worked fine when I tested it with Metal Slug, but when I started putting other carts in it (Blazing Star and Pulstar notably, and also Slug 3), the sound went nuts. I get NO music and weird static on Pulstar, and intermittent sound on Blazing Star. The games all worked fine on my 6 slot US cab. There's a burnt pin on the JAMMA connector that I think may be causing the problems.

Here's a picture of the burnt pin:

If the 28th pin is on the right, that makes this the "Test SW" pin, #15. If it's on the left, that makes this the Video Sync pin (unless you count the space on the JAMMA connector as a pin)...but I'm having no video problems, only audio. I'm not sure what can be done if anything for it... :(

I can't find any burnt traces or other visually diagnosable problems with the board however. It seems to have no video problems that I can find either, but this sound thing is REALLY irritating! Any help (or another MVS 1 slot board - any model that's horiz mount) would be GREATLY appreciated!

Things off the top of my head..(I have no real answer.

I assume the carts connectors are super clean and the mobos../even though the carts worked in another mobo.

Is that burn pin lifted or the burn sticking up high....lifted enough to make the jamma harness go on tight or not good enough.
I'd fix that or clean it off anyhow..(make a better connection)

How'd it get like that..?
......
Are you putting this board in a cab...?
Did you take any voltage readings..
5V=..

I'd check the 12V..to see if it's failing or fluctuating..

The Burnt Pin is a Ground....... SO it donesn't have to do with anything....

Anyways..

I assume that the Stereo/Mono switch is set properly (Should be set to stereo if used in a 6 slot setup.)

Try cleaning all of your carts and the Connectors on the 1 slot motherboard.

Thinking about the MV-1 PCB after reading what norton9478 said..

When I had my MV-1 PCB the Stereo/Mono switch was very touchy...
Having the board mounted vertically in a small cab I would sometimes bump this switch when I changed carts..
Causing:
No sound...NO music,weird static............Drove me nuts.

I'd take out the cart and clean the crap out of it checking for anything bad on it...
I'd try other carts.I'd check the voltage....then removing the bolted in mobo to try it in another cab..
After getting it out I then would notice the Stereo/Mono switch was not fully to one side.

I've got the MV-1 in a Taito Egret. I tried it on Stereo and it didn't work at all, only works on mono. As for the Mono switch, I assumed it was in the right spot but it does seem to be a little wiggly (are they all like that?). My carts are clean enough to eat off of....I re-cleaned the contacts on the board and in all the carts I tried in it...no effect.

I do however also have a NiCad battery that's starting to leak here:

I'm going to try and replace it next weekend.

It could be that the stereo/mono switch is just touchy. Anyone got a recommendation for another MV one slot that's less finicky? It has to be a horizontal orientation though...the slot for mobos in the Egret is so small that the MV-1 has less than 1/16 of an inch of clearance to fit into the cab! :spock:

BTW, anyone have the hard dip settings for the MV-1? I was wondering if maybe a dip is wrong.....

If you look at the JAMMA connector on the right hand side, you will notice an upside down number 1. That is pin #1.

The space (key) DOES count as a posiition (7 on the parts side and H on the solder side.) which makes this pin Video GND. (vid sync is the next pin to the right on the BOTTOM of the board.)

The third one left from the notch is the sound pin. Positive on top, negative on the bottom.

I was told this might be the problem:

The isolation transformer failed and pass voltage through the ground. The video ground pin burned and the battery leaked because it's tied to ground. I would also check all caps on the Jamma board as well.

Possible?
