I just got this willow board and I am havng a small problem. It is very touchy. Usually the screen looks all greeen and blue, or it has dirty lines in the video. Lines like if you insert a mvs cart and it's not inserted properly. The black vertical lines that cut thrugh the video. Not scanlines. I have tried cleaning the contacts and adjusting the JAMMA cable in different positions. No luck at all. Usually with a mvs cart I take it out and put it back in and it works fine. I can get the colors to work right. Those damn lines wont go away.

What happened is I made it to level 2 and they just appeared. Just like a old nes game when the system gets bumped and you get all those lines in the video. I am just kinda worried that there may be a real problem with the JAMMA board.

What do you all think?

Broken board or just very touchy?

You could try unseating the ROMs and giving the legs a clean and then reseating them. Maybe one chip is not sitting correctly in its socket.

Yeah, that looks like dirty/corroded rom legs, Willow is CPS1 right? maybe the connection between the mother and daughter boards needs a clean too?

The board is really clean, but the bottom board is pretty dirty. How would I seperate these boards? It looks like it may pull apart but im scared to try it.

The board was sold as working, and it did work when I got it. It just seemed to break about 10 minutes after I had it. Although when I did start it up all the graphics looked green and blue. After I got that taken care of it worked perfect for about 10 minutes. Considering I got the board for extremely cheap I am thinking of sending it to someone to get it fixed.

Does anyone know a good place to send a JAMMA board to get it fixed? I was thinking of sending it to www.JAMMAboards.com since there in the usa. I just recently bought a set of three wire brushes for cleaning arcade boards, and a light bristle brush for removing dust. Hopefully a good cleaning will help out. I just need to get these boards apart.

That jammaboards website also talks about a board soak. I guess they soak the boards in something. Anyone know how to do this? I am guessing it is soaked in alcohol.

Finally, about cleaning all the roms, do I have to desolder all of them? I am no soldering expert.

OK, to seperate the boards will be easy, there might be some vinyl clips going through the top board (i cant remember if your board has any cause i dont have any cps1's to hand), if so, gently remove these. The boards will seperate pretty easily if you gently pull the top board away from the bottom, do this evenly so as not to strain any of the connectors.

Once seperated, check for any broken or bent pins in the connectors, if there are none, spray some isopropynol contact cleaner into the connectors. The leave for a while to dry, MAKE SURE THEY ARE ALL DRY, before reconnecting the boards and turning on the game.

The roms are also very easily removed, Look for the roms seated in plastic 'beds' they should have little stickers on top of them. They can be taken out if you gently slide a flat bladed screwdriver under one end UNDER THE ROM CHIP NOT UNDER THE PLASTIC ROM BED!!, carefully pry one end of the chip up a little, then do the same on the other side, repeat until the rom is free, be very gentle with the rom legs as they can bend easily, once free, make a note of which way the rom was seated in the bed and where it was on the board, this is very important, as you can fry your roms if they are replaced incorrectly.

Now, very carefully with some very fine sandpaper, rub both sides of each leg of each rom, this will take a while!!! then clean off any residue on the legs with some isopropynol and lint free cloth (a cottonbud will do).
Also spray the rom beds with some cleaning solution and leave to dry.

Gently replace the roms to their original positions on the board, by placing the rom so that each of its legs are sitting in the top of the corresponding hole in the bed. GENTLY and EVENLY push the rom back into its bed. Make sure they go back in the right places and face the correct way!!!!!!!!!

Soaking the boards can be done, maybe they soak them in cleaning solution, I also have been told that you can put boards in a dishwasher (without detergent), but I would only do this if the board was totally dead and as a last resort.

When you say spray with alcohol do you mean get a spray bottle and put alcohol in it? Or is there a good brand out there?

you will need to buy some proper electrical 'cleaning' spray (available from most electronic shops).

No probs, hope you get your board up and running!
