Blazing Star MVS troubles

Hey, all,

For some reason, after I moved my 4-slot to my bedroom, the sound on Blazing star just refuses to work right. I was having trouble with it before, but I could always just move it to another slot or simply fuss with it and it would work.

All in all, my Neo isn't that tempermental, but this cart is giving me holy hell. Seems to be okay otherwise, but because I sometimes get weird sound glitches on other games sometimes, my gut tells me it's not the cart itself.

Any tips?

If everything else works fine, then I would check to see if it's a bootleg.

Well, if it's a bootleg, it's one of the best I've ever seen. The label has full serial # and the sort of hologrammy finish to it, and all other labels look really authentic. I've never seen a bootlegger to that much effort before. I haven't opened it up, though, so I guess I could be wrong. All the same, the bootlegs I've seen aren't really all that shy about it. I find it's easier to know it's real for sure than to know it's a fake for sure. If you know what I mean... Though I'm not really an expert yet, mind you.

At any rate, the most puzzling aspect is how it worked before and not now, with no real jolts or significant trauma. Maybe I just need to fuss with it some more. You know how once in a while a cart doesn't like a certain slot and all. Worst of all, though, I forgot to mention that though the sound was fussy before, it certainly wasn't totally messed up. It would just crackle sometimes. Now the game won't work at all, with weird lines across the screen and whatnot. Come to think of it, all this is indicative of a phony, so I guess I'll go open it up and see for sure.

The only real silver lining is that I had a chance to beat it a couple times, and that I actually managed to get it for free as a bonus with some other carts I bought (KoF 2003 and Shock Troopers).

Wish me continued luck. I thought I might go for a complete cart refresher, taking out everything and mixing it up a bit. Maybe I'll get it to work then. Man, I sure hope so...

Hmm, I haven't tried that, though I've been meaning to. But while I'm here, does anyone reccomend any sort of contact cleaner brand or something? I've never had to do this. (Hey, I'm still a rookie...)

Cleaning MVS Carts..

http://www.hardmvs.com/html/projects.htm

If that method doesn't work..Try my method of fine grain sand paper and 91% Alcohol (for the carts contacts)

Dirty cart contacts is the biggest reason for what's happening with your cart.
That...
Or a Boot.
Or dirty motherboard connectors..
.....Or warped-warping carts boards/but that's another story..that I'd have to get into if you cart problem persists..

When he says 91% he means 91%. That wall mart 71% shit wont cut it. If you are lucky you can find the 98% at target. Thats what I use.

I see these threads so many time where people don't clean there games. Any time you get a game in cartridge format or a jamma board you clean the contacts with alcohol and q-tips before you play the game. As soon as you insert that game in your system all that bull shit goes in your system.

Hey, I said I was a rookie... :emb:

Anyway, I cracked it open and gave it a scrubdown with contact cleaner (which seems pretty industrial, though it doesn't list the alcohol content) — this seemed like it might be useful, because the boards were covered in some sort of weird gunk. I got rid of all that shit, plus a load of crap on the connectors themselves...

...and the game is still fucked. This is really annoying. I should say the one thing I haven't done is use the eraser. I'll try that tomorrow. In the meantime, is there anything else I can do? Besides try and swap it for a different one with the dude I got it from, that is (this might happen, he seemed like a nice guy, and he knows I'll keep buying games from him if I'm happy)?

Just as a recap, when I first put the game in the machine, it worked fine, but only for a day. Then the sound started going all weird on me, and this persisted for a couple of days.

I got sick of that, so I pulled it out and switched the slots. It stared working just fine after that. Then, I foolishly moved the machine to a different room without taking the carts out (yet another rookie mistake :oh_no: ).

After that, it was really fucked. There were weird funky lines all over the screen, including the startup screen.

That's the whole story. I should have laid it out better before, but here you go. Wish me luck on the eraser cleaning. Otherwise, I guess I'll have to sweet talk the seller. :spock:

I think you should go over you wiring..Something may have came loose..check to see if your jamma harness is on tight.

In regards to the Cart Cleaning...Use some light-fine Grain Sand paper on the carts connectors and 91% alcohol.....(Carts Connectors only) If they are not becoming shiny and still brown then they are still dirty....They have to become shiny....((to be able to knock off that portion of the problem...
Your Motherboards connectors can be dirty too..As some carts don't connect at the same points.

Otherwise
Try pulling the cart out of the mobo slightly(while cab is off)..Having it not pushed all the way in..
Other:
Are the carts boards real tight in the case?..try to loosen the 4 nuts... slightly,to where the carts boards have a slight movement to them..(make sure not to loose where the boards fall out)

Does the cart slide into the motherboard real tight...?
If so then the boards may be to tight in the case or even warping..

......................................
I mean shiny like this:
DSCF0011.jpg

.................................................................
I try my heart out to get a cart working....I have a Ragnagard that the sound sometimes doesn't work on..
The seller sent me another one that works fine..but I'd still love to figure out why this one has problems.

I've cleaned the Carts connectors..(tried the cart in 3 cabs/4 mobos-same problem)
I've made the tight carts boards loose by shaving the insides of the case to make them "wobble"..as I do with most carts.

I've changed the case...(This has worked for me with other carts)..Or try the boards in another game case.

Well, good news! :D I tried everything you've suggested here, and it turns out the boards weren't warping, so that was good. I looked closer as I gave that thing the cleaning of its life, and I noticed some gunk on the connectors (which weren't really brown, but could be shinier, at any rate, and now they are) that I missed before. Of course, all my jamma harnesses are fine.

I scrubbed, polished, sanded, erased, and shined, as only a person who is unreasonably devoted to a hobby can do.

And lo and behold! I got it to work. Awesome!

Now, the bootup screen sound starts out a bit hi-pitched and weird, but everything else works fine, and if I let all 4 games cycle, the sound is totally fine. Cool. :D

Can't say how happy I am about this one! Had to say, I was getting worried. Let it be a lesson: one cleaning may not be enough.

Well, I'm off to play it. Thanks again, everyone. :glee:

godDAMMIT! I get the damn thing working, and here I am playing the second boss when the whole thing gets the stupid lines across the screen again.

All right, I think. Not the end of the world. Let's just try it again.

:blow_top: No dice. Same thing happens, a little later.

I think this cart is fucked. I polished that thing like a 5000 year old coin, and bumpkiss. I'm gonna talk to the guy I got it from. It wasn't that long ago, and he doesn't know it worked in the first place. Come to think of it, that might be a bit of a fluke, not the breakage itself.

At least it isn't a super-rare game. Can you imagine if it was the AES version? And I do still appreciate the help. At least I know what to do next time.

Still... FUCK!

Yeah, it does not sound good for you. Have you opened up the game yet to see if it was a boot? Open it up and look at the chips in it. Do any of the chips have circles on them that look like windows? Are the any chips that don't say snk or toshiba? If so what do they say?

Does you jamma board have legs on it? Check the bottom of the board and see if anything is stuck to it like metal? Keep the system away from other electrical appliances.

Naw, it definitely isn't a boot. And my jamma shit is totally together. After all, this is the only game in a collection of 12 or so that's giving me grief.

I'm definitely planning on getting rid of it. I can't take the aggrivation. I just hope the dude lets me swap for another one (I checked, and he has tons of 'em, so let's hope).

Still a bit pissed, but at least my MotW turned out to be real and not a fake after all (but that's another story). So it's not like I don't have anything to play.

But, I said it once and I'll say it again.

FUCK!

The saga continues...

I spoke with the guy who sold me this, and he's offered to let me grab another one.

But he points out that the 'non-working' carts he gets are 99% fine, and that if I get another one, it might have the same problems.

Now, I realize he's a bit better off if I change my mind and keep this, but I'm not gonna do that. But I'm posting to ask if it is indeed likely that I'm gonna have the smae problem.

I guess my MoBo has gotten on in the years, but like I said, it's really not that tempermental. So, yet again, does anyone have any input? Thanks in advance.

Didn't read anything about you going to see Yaton..but..

Yell him to let you take two since your going to see him(open them there to check for boots)...At least then if they are of the same board type you can mix match the boards(top-botton)and try to get one working....then offer to send one back to him if:
I'm not sure if Jian/Yaton tests his carts so you may be able to test them there and just take one...I'd bring my cart cleaning stuff though..

IMO/I don't think another one will have the same problems.

He sent me a Ragnagard once, that I still have...It has on and off sound problems..he sent me another one/replacement for just the cost of shipping within other carts being shipped to me.
The replacement Ragnagard looks exactly like the other one but works fine..
It's in my Neo Gold now..
