Problems with FF3

I've had a few boards & chipsets left over from my AES conversions(And no, I don't do them any more) and meda up a few FF3 MVS carts. I sold one cheap to a member on these forums and it worked perfectly on my 4 slot and both of my 1 slots. However on his 1 slot he just gets a red garbled mess on the screen. Any ideas as the what the problem would be?

Is his 1 slot the same model as the one you used. Just a thought to help.

I'm not sure to be honest. The 1 slots I used were the big old MV1 & a MV1-F and it worked fine on both of those. Thing is, I've restored loads of FF3's & SS2's and they all work fine on my boards.

Sounds like you didn't set a jumper right. Sometimes that causes messed up graphics.

I always make sure the jumpers are set right before I solder the chips onto the boards. It's really confusing. I've sent the guy pics of an original, so I'll see if he notices any differences.

You really think Andy hasn't thought about this? FF3 doesn't suffer from any compatability problems anyway.

Even though the cart works fine on 3 other boards?

Honestly this n00b info is of no help whatsoever. It's more likely that the cart got thrown around during shipping and a solder joint has come loose or something, and is causing the problem.

I've seen pics of the boards and all jumpers & wires are fine, so the guy is gonna send it back to me. Still seems a bit odd don't ya think?

-Knocked around by shipping - I agree that was another thought I had as well since it is a conversion cart. As for the compatability problems, there could have possibly been a problem with certain MVS system boards that could have problems with some converted carts maybe. Of course Superfamifreak proved it wasn't the problem. Anything could be possible when doing conversions, they aren't always perfect since its a hack. I know I do not have much knowledge on conversions in general but I do know electronics pretty well (Im no Engineer though).

Although it was a 'hack', the boards and chipsets were correct and the M1 chip was wired as a legit one, so I can't see any real problem. Should have it back soon so will hopefully get it looked at if I aint in the slammer.
