How do you know when a cap kit is needed on a monitor. The colors on the monitor for my neo cocktail cabinet are looking washed out. For example, the black screen with logo during start up is more blue than black. I've tried to adjust the monitor, but doesn't help. Also, the character sprites look a bit fuzzy too. How hard are the cap kits to install?

A cap kit wouldnt do any harm, your monitor will love you for it.

The black showing a bluish tint sounds like

1. The screen voltage too high.
2. RGB gain and or cut off/bias pots need setting up.(grey scale)

The CRT itself may be getting a little mellow too.

If your not familiar with working on monitors its not a good idea to start adjusting the grey scale, it may end up worse than when you started.

I've only done 2 cap kits. And even though the first was one that a lot of people on KLOV said was difficult due to the way it was set up (WG4600), I didn't have any problems at all. I HAVE had a fair amount of electronics background though, and I did take a lot of pictures while I was taking it apart. I did make a stupid mistake on the 2nd one... put a cap in the wrong place, and since I have NEVER found schematics for it, I couldn't check which it was. I'll just wait for it to blow if I can ever find what was actually WRONG with the dang thing, and then replace it with the correct one! ;)
