Old-style AES stick question

I bought a used old style AES stick to use with my NGCD and have a question.

It seems to be in about average condition (the usual cracked ball / worn markings) but the whole stick spins in its socket and it irritates me like mad. Everything looks solid inside so all I can assume is that it's supposed to do that.

Is it really supposed to do that? If so, can anyone suggest a way to make it stop?

Do the new sticks do that? Does the new PS2 one do that?

Any help / info / suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, it's normal, and no I don't think there's much of any way to stop it from happening (that is easilly done). You can make a stick yourself, but be sure to not get a joystick with leaf switches, or microswitches with the leaf. The Happ ultimate sticks don't turn very much, but I must warn you... they're not well made sticks (they have issues where the square actuator presses two switches at a time)

I know I'll eventually end up building sticks to go with my supergun when it's done. Thanks for the info about the ultimate sticks, I'll keep that in mind.

As far as the spinning being beneficial goes, it's really throwing me off (literally in some cases) because every recent arcade game I've played uses Happ sticks which, as was mentioned, don't spin much. It seems like whenever I start playing hard on the AES stick, it'll spin at just the wrong time and I lose my grip. I just can't get used to it.

Maybe I should just spend more time playing on it and see if that helps. :D

Ive got an AES with a Pro arcade stick and sure it spins but it makes to so much easier to do those circle moves.
It helps you out with pulling off the moves and such.
Id rather an original Neo arcade stick than the PS2 Neo arcade stick...it just doesnt feel right.
