I was thinking I am getting into shooters and am having a hello of a time finding all the great shootes for the various platforms. Lets start a thread for all the best shooters for all available platforms. This way if someone is looking to get into this, they have a single source to look at.

Neo: Blazing Star, Pulstar

PS2: Gradius V

DC: Border Down, Ikaruga

CPS2: Progear

Saturn: Radiant

I did not see Einhander for the psx listed... it may not be the BEST of the BEST, but it makes the list in my book.

anyone that agree's Lords of the Thunder is the bomb, you get a prize.. that game is AWESOME!

I also enjoyed Sipheed for the sega cd alot.

I'll leaving out all the obvious answers on purpose, no nead to repeat greatness.

In order of my favorites and the system.

Playstation: G-Darius (Thunderforce 5 and R-Types come as a close second.)

Playstation2: Mushihimesama (Either this or Dodonpachi Daioujou)

Neogeo: Blazing Star

Xbox: Shikigami no Shiro 2

Saturn: Strikers 1945 and Dodonpachi.

You should check out http://www.shmups.com if you haven't already. There is a ton of information there on shooters.

I'd like to add Bangai-O as a nominee in the wtf category (if you buy the DC version make sure you change the default controls to the ABXY mode)

Yeah that game blew my mind. I've never played the n64 version of it. Very cool though. I remember really liking it, but never clearing it.

Great kind-of shooter.
