:help: I have a neo with the old debug chip in it. I don't intend on buying a new uni-bios anytime soon, and I was wondering if there was any way to get the neo geo to boot up defaulting in USA mode instead of JAP. thanks for the help!

Buy a universe bios, install it, hold down ABC when the uni-bios splash screen comes up. Choose Region, then you can pick japan, europe, or US and arcade or aes.

cheers,

Nope, all Debug Bios are always in Japan default. I think someone could alter the BIOS to do US butis is not worth the trouble. Just get a Uni-BIOS its more stable and is 5 times better.

Get a UNIBIOS especially if your debug BIOS is in a dip-socket switch. All you gotta do is take it out and then put in the Uni-BIOS. You can do it your self, its very easy.

It's really not that bad, all you got to do is go to the hardware part of the list and change the region and system type. Then just reset the system and it keeps it in that mode. Here read this: http://www.neo-geo.com/snk/dipcodes/dipcodes.html

Trust me, you do not want to use the original BIOS, it sucks for games like Metal Slugs, Last Blades, and some of the Samurai Shodowns. Also in Japanese modes on some games you get more things out of the game sometimes.

Your best setting is USA MVS mode, go to the software part of list and change all the settings you want like blood on and challenge level. To pause in MVS mode just bring up the debug menu.

I just want to point out if you get a Universe Bios that it will only remember your region settings on the AES as long as you have a working memory card in the system. If you do not it will always boot to EURO region, this is because the AES has no backup RAM like an MVS has.

Thats right I almost forgot about the memory card saves how your system will boot.

Even though you can do that, some games you will want in US mode and some you will want on Japanese mode.

Example of games: Samurai Shodown 1, there is no menu at all that can do language select in home mode. So you need to set it as MVS US if you want english text and un-censored mode together.

If you use the Unibios, some games let you turn on the blood after booting a game in US home mode, if you like to keep it on that mode. European Home resembles US overall. European mode is the Unibios default mode without a memory save.

I still like some things about the old debug bios though, it did make it so you had demo sound before the title screen came up in MVS mode on a AES system. Other than that, the Unibios still whips it.
