Do people even bootleg GBA carts (Hong Kong)? I was looking at this guy's eBay auctions.

If not, I'm tempted to pick up Harmony of Dissonance, Super Mario Bros Advance 4, and a few other games I'm missing.

Anyway, I was wondering if this stuff is legit, or if it's likely pirated.

it's safe to assume that everything on ebay from hong kong is bootleg. it's just a fact of life.

The bootlegging of GBA games is very extensive. As soon as you get one you will be able to tell the difference.

The boxes are made from the wrong cardboard, the instructions are usually only a few pages stapled together and the carts are usually very tight to go in and don't have the proper nintendo logos and patents on the back, and if you open the cart the two halves just fall away from each other instead of sliding apart and the pcb won't have any chips on it just some little black blobs.

I have been after a few GBA games and the only ones I can find are the crappy bootlegs

Thanks for the warnings everyone. I didn't know if any GBA bootlegging actually went on, and how extensive it was. I guess I'll only buy from US sellers, then. A $5 HoD seemed too good to be true.

I've bought all of my GBA games from EB and Gamestop at this point. A lot of the older titles are hard to find, though... maybe I'll just get Riviera instead.

if you really wanna know...buy a cart and when you get it - dont take it apart but just look at the opening on the bottom acrossed the chip board itself...You should see the word nintendo in white letters if not its a boot

Regarding the Castlevania games.. check the prices too. $10 or less is too good to be true when the later two carts sell for $40+ regularly. Being two of the most popular games, they're bound to be targeted by bootleggers. I guess it doesn't matter to some people as they're buying second hand already, but I don't want some faulty HK crap that's going to die on me in a year.

Before I moved to NY, I lived in New Orleans and worked at Gametrader (a buy trade game repair store that seem to becomming more and more popular) and this little Chinese kid would trade in GBA boots all the time. No one there even knew that they were boots, and he would just wait until I wasn't working a shift and blam, unload his wares. I remember at one point, we had like 40 boots in our GBA display case!

I think it is better to assume almost every GBA games on ebay at low price from hong kong is bootleg, rather than everything. I 'm sure about this.
