Hi all!
Hope this ahsnt been posted before.
In the process of making a consolized MVS and have all the neccesary bits n bobs, but have a PSU question. When making a supergun i tend to use PC PSU's as the size doesnt tend to matter, but for my MVS console i thought id make it sleaker and wondered the best PSU to use..would it be a case of ripping a PSU from an old Laptop??? Or can anyone suggest a better way???
Many Thanks
Paul

Sorry, no idea in the UK, actually here in Spain I couldn't get a feasible multivoltage psu and had to import a sc200 from USA. Anyway I'm sure you can get a simple and cheap 5V-only psu in UK and it will work too (provided you do some mod, otherwise you wouldn't get sound) as mentioned here:

This is my consolized 2-slot I made with a small laptop universal psu:

What MVS board are you going to consolize?

:spock:

You sure a MV1FZ needs so many amps?

EDIT: d'oh, just checked hardmvs and looks like it needs 7A, that's a lot, I'm wondering why?? :conf:

Yeah bit of a pain! Its the only 1 slot that needs 7A, not sure why though?? It seems to be impossiblt to find a Laptop PSU with 12 and 5V lines as well as 7A, they all run 1-6amps it seems!?

All laptop psu's I've seen offer only one voltage, and usually a high voltage like 15-20V, not sure about the intensity. My universal laptop psu has avoltage selector from 5V to 24V, and at 5V it has 4A which is enough for my 2-slot.

Ive heard ATX psu's arent advisable to be used??Is this a hard and fast rule or could i use an ATX as opposed to an AT, as ATX come in micro sizes (about 12cm) and would make it smaller??
Cheers

ATX is OK, it's just that you'll have to install a switch to power it up yourself, is quite easy. Since they can draw much more current than you need you might want to install some fuses in the 5V and 12V lines.

Thanks Amano, my pop's is an electrician so together should be able to sort the ATX out, just didn't know if there was anything i should look out for! Ill stick some quick blow fuses on the lines!
thanks again!

It doesn't.

Those SNK quoted power requirements are overkill, to say the least.

supergoose has built a bunch of consolized 1FZ units using the SC200 psu. You could probably get away with less, as well.

yep, a sc200 does the job. it's even good enough to power my mv4ft with 4 inserted carts.

Yep, the SC200 is more than enough for the 1FZ.

On the other hand, the SW300 seems to fail with the 1FZ, but works great with a 1F.

ok cheers guys! That makes it easier was going to construct my own with an ATX supply, would have been fun but laptop psu much easier!!
Now to find a suitable case, any old rubbish usually does for my superguns but can't seem to locate one over here in the UK thats decent for the board!
