I use elecrical contact cleaner/flux remover, it evapoates quickly and is easy to use. It's made to clean electonic components so it's very safe to use on PCB and edge connectors.(but highly flammable!)

It's not really risky, all you have to do is make sure it is left to dry for atleast 30 minutes just to be sure. I hear it works wonders compared to rubbing alcohol. I still wonder what the special NES cleaning paste is that removes oxidation completely from carts that this guy sells on ebay. I need to find out what he uses. Heres a link http://cgi.ebay.com/72-PIN-PROFESSI...214396338QQcategoryZ41046QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I know the other one would probally have to be alchohol so it cleans the cleaner off. The cleaner is some sort of paste though. Most all electronic cleaners are liquid in a can or bottle. So this still makes me wonder exactly what he has.
Everyone, read his description a little more. It is something strong from what I can gather if it eats the oxidation off the contacts, yet harmless overall.

Dishwashing soap and water for me. Garden hose, scrub brush. Let dry overnight.

always works for me now, and it worked back at SNK :)
